Akumu rant.
Hello there, dear horror lovers. In this topic i'd like to hear your opinion about the infamous Akumu mode.
So, i've finished TEW on Hard, then Nightmare, now i'm on my 2nd NG+ run and i'm still having tons of fun. Freaking love this game. Yeah, there were times when i literally almost broke my keyboard out of rage and frustration (chapter 6 for example, Laura, escaping from Ruvik etc.) but as you progress more and more it starts being not so hard. Yeah, Nightmare is i think perfect for this.

So, Akumu. Before i noticed it i was planning to get all the achievements. Now that i saw it i doubt my decision. My question is, why? Why is there even such an achievement in this game? As much as i know, you can't do it on NG+, it's a one hit kill no matter what... What the f*ck?!

Now, don't get me wrong, i'm absolutely okay with challenge. It's just, i don't get the point of beating this game on this mode. I don't understand it. Please, explain it to me. Alright, okay, make it one hit kill, but for all sakes, leave us with all we've got from the last game. I say this achievement is pure bullsh*t. It's stupid. It's pointless. It's nothing but a nerve burner. You've beaten the game on Nightamre, what else do you have to prove to yourself? Even IRL you don't die from one hit. It doesn't prove anything, it doesn't reward you with anything. It only shows that you got somewhat lucky at some point.

I'm only angry because i know i won't get all the achievements for TEW now just because of this one. I say such things shouldn't even be in video games. Or make it a challenge. If you beat the game on Akumu, you get a 50% off coupon for the next game or something. In my opinion it's the only reason why such things should exist.

Does anyone agree with me? If you disagree, i'd like to know, why. Thanks in advance.

It's supposed to be a challenge, allowing unlocks to carry forward would undermine the whole thing. Having upgrades, all weapons, and etc. at the beginning of the game would make it a slightly more cheesy cakewalk.

It's an issue RE7 sort of had with Madhouse. On one hand having all the unlocks universal was nice and convenient, but on the other it really is easy to completely trivialize the harder difficulties.

Also, not allowing unlocks to carry up isn't exclusive to Akumu here. NG+ will not let you increase difficulty to use the stuff you unlocked in a higher difficulty. If you beat the game on Casual, you won't get jack if you try to play Survival or Nightmare.

Yes, i know it's supposed to be a challenge. But beating a challenge, at least in video games, usually give you some kinda reward, right? And there is no reward for beating TEW on Akumu. At all. You got pretty much everything for finishing the game on Nightmare. New weapons, models, gel...

For Akumu? Nothing. So, what's exactly the point of this challenge? To tell somebody that you've made it?.. Meh. I'd say it's not worth the nerves. I still don't understand.

It's unlocked the same time as nightmare, and has the same weapon unlocks and changes. Someone can skip nightmare and akumu would give them both achieves and all the unlocks.

But... it's completely optional then? Like, if you want to play on Nightmare and unlock stuff - go ahead, if you want to play on Akumu and unlock the stuff - you're welcome to try. Okay. I got it.
But there is an achievement "You asked for it". And that is my problem with this game. In action/shooter games i hate two things. Stealth and speedrun. But i can deal with both those problems of mine as long as i can deal with the situation. And one hit kill no matter what is not an option. I don't want to start the whole level over and over again only because somewhere somehow i took SOME damage. It. Is. Bullsh*t. I was gonna complete the game once again for The quick and the dead achievement. And also i was gonna buy the DLCs which are stealth-oriented (2 out of 3). Now i think i won't. And it's very sad. Because of this one damn achievement.

My rant exactly about doing something i care about. I only get 100% achievements in the games i 'm most dedicated to. In this one, i can't get all of them only because of this one. And i explained, why. So, once again, what is the point of this particular achievement? What's the point of any achievement at all, you ask? Well, there really isn't. It's just a badge after all. I just don't get this one and find it really silly. More silly than challenging. That's what my rant is also about, about this achievement being stupid and actually preventing me from investing more into the game.

Akumu is fantastic. It forces the player to really learn all the tricks of the game. It proves just how well designed the game is. Some parts of Akumu felt much eaiser then Nightmare, because by then I had learned how to truly use the crossbow effectively and do things smartly. Instead of just trying to force my way through encounters with the shotgun.

May i ask, how many times did you die during this?

If you're that dedicated why don't you just play Akumu for your achieve? The game has a ton of saves and checkpoints, other than a few segments its not really that bad.

Dude just give it a shot, you'll be happy that you did in the end. That 100% will mean so much more because you rose above the odds. You will die, a lot, but that's the point. You just have to learn the fundamental mechanics of the game and exploit them as you see fit. It's also a good teacher for patience and diligence. If you find yourself stuck, hit me up, or look up one of the numerous guides available all over the internet. Many people have suffered through this, so your deaths are not a sign of ineptitude.

Console gamers have done this with controllers; you have the advantage of a keyboard and mouse setup, allowing for easier headshots. It isn't impossible, the only block is your own hesitation.

Yeah, even with crappy controller aim it's doable. Probably why I had a good amount more deaths, but it wasn't bad enough I felt like ragequitting or anything when I did akumu.

Aye, mouse aim makes all these type things almost too easy. Like the RE4HD.

What are those secret tricks and fundamental game mechanics that i haven't learned yet in my 80 hours? Please, by all means, enlighten me. Also, i asked for the point of this achievement. Dying a lot? That's the point? Really? Once again, there is nothing for me but a badge after completing this on Akumu. Literally nothing. I already have it all. Do you guys actually have any better excuse for this rather than just... What is it am i seeing, "Git gud"?

If you're that bitter about it, just use the Steam achievement manager to unlock it and be done with it.

Could you please tell me how to do it?
