[Unsolved] Will not launch at all.
Just as my title says, the game will not launch. I feel I have tried every fix I have seen in these discussions. I just start the game it says its launching then nothing, no black screen, no error message no nothing. I just installed the game today AND ran the Steam File Cache thing. People want PC specs when it comes to these problems so heres mine.
OS: Windows 10 Pro - 64 Bit
GPU: Radeon RX 480 4GB
CPU: AMD FX 8370
1TB Memory
16GB RAM
Any solutions anyone? I'm kinda out of hope when it comes to playing this game which I really want to play since its been sitting in my Steam library since it came out.

Okay, I ran Memtest86. The only thing I saw come up was the message saying "RAM may be vulnerable to high frequency row hammer bit flips." I googled it and found an article from the memtest website. Reading though it I saw this about the message I got:

"The errors detected during Test 13, albeit exposed only in extreme memory access cases, are most certainly real errors. During typical home PC usage (eg. web browsing, word processing, etc.), it is less likely that the memory usage pattern will fall into the extreme case that make it vulnerable to disturbance errors. It may be of greater concern if you were running highly sensitive equipment such as medical equipment, aircraft control systems, or bank database servers."

I dont think that would cause The Evil Within to not play though? I'm not sure. I dont really understand the error. You can read the entire thing here https://www.memtest86.com/troubleshooting.htm

I guess my next thing to try is uninstall the game, clean the registry, restart my pc then install the game again. I guess if that doesnt work I'll get new RAM.

The exact same thing is happening to me. The strange thing is that it was running just fine last night. Then my computer rebooted overnight due to Windows Update and now The Evil Within won't start at all. Same symptoms.

Running i7 6700k, GTX 1070, 16 GB RAM.

Tried updating my Nvidia drivers to no avail.

I verified file integrity, uninstalled and re-downloaded. No change.

EDIT- found the culprit on my end- it was Afterburner. Turned it off and now the game runs. The strange thing is that Afterburner was on last night with no issues. Same thing happened to Dishonored 2- stopped working until Afterburner was disabled dispite the fact that I've played 40+hours previously with it enabled.

When you mean disabled you just ended the program or? I'm not very savy when it comes to things like afterburner hence if its still not working for me I might not have disabled afterburner correctly. Any rate I'll just try uninstalling it. See if it works. If it does I'm going to feel like the biggest dumbass alive.
Well uninstalling Afterburner did nothing. Don't really know what else to do at ths point. I wish it was Afterburner because then I would know what was causing this issue.

Can you list all your background processes listed in task manager? Doubt it will point in the right direction, but still am curious and still worth checking.

Kill punkbuster, anything related to Avira, soundblaster, and "killer network" stuff. Might have to go to the services tab to completely kill some of those.

Maybe kill corsair utility engine as well for good measure.

Looking over your error code again unless you have some data corruption (unlikely) or failing hardware (doubt it), something is interferring with the game process causing instability. Unfortunately these days like everything under the sun injects itself into running processes so it's a pain to troubleshoot. Security, optional utilities, and hardware suites are the usual suspects though (for instance Razer's garbage software is 9/10 times the cause of problems for people that use it).

Yikes, I'll try ending Punkbuster, Avira, Soundblaster, Killer Network, Corsiar Utility Engine and see what happens.
Nothing. Ending them did nothing. Same Exception code. I even uninstalled Avira. Cleaned my registry, restarted my PC, checked the intregrity of the game and tried to launch. Still nothing. Even tried ending a few other backgroud processes. Whatever I was able to end I did. Still nothing.

Last ditch idea, but try uninstalling all your motherboard drivers and going with the Windows 10 defaults. Network drivers, audio drivers, etc.

well turning off afterburner fixed it, its still installed, but off
apart from a couple of issues where it started on the wrong screen, and the mouse movement was shockingly bad, it seemed to run thru the first chapter fine

when you uninstalled AB, did you uninstall the riva tuner statistics server as well? if thats still there it is quite possibly the problem

i apologise for having mine fixed so easily!

OMG, you're a genius. Been trying to start the game for the last hour with no luck. Turning off the riva tuner statistics process fixed it for me. Thank you!
