"Phantom: Night Veil" acts more as a set-up for charged attacks (and GS has a lot of those), thanks to its trait of releasing waves of energy upon charging any chargeable attack, which helps with stunlocking.
"Inner Fury" simply deals lots of damage and can hit weakspots directly, if there are any.
If you can craft yourself a full Chaos-Ridden set, its final thing is a unique skill called "Volcanic Wrath". Just trust me when I say that the damage on this baby is absolutely disgusting.
Phantom veil
Inner Fury
Furious Swipe
(A skill you don't get till NG+)
Counter Strike
Ghost arm into Ghost arm Overpowered is what fuels my entire setup though. Absolutely fantastic move.
Later on you can get breakthrough when you have access to its upgrades.
with nights veil up, charged helm break is your fast follow up/distance closer into fully charged heavy slash (or nights veil if it's not up yet and then heavy slash), and with the right timing from charged helm break into heavy slash into helm break into heavy slash repeat, all tied together with the pulses from night's veil, you can chain stagger a boss.
charged normal from savage momentum can/should replace helm breaker for confirms into your combo after like a brink block stance break, or a burst counter, or if your target is against a wall, but usually helm break is the safer option mid combo because there's some knockback from heavy slash that will push targets out of your range if you're not following up.
this can be used with any set, but the direct upgrade to this is to get the fleshripper set for the apex charged slash upgrade allowing you to slap the absolute bejeezus out of things. also you can add charged inner fury with nights veil as a futher buff/combo linker (and decent damage), but I find it's best used on elites because it doesn't stagger enough to lock down bosses consistently, or the spirit is better used on sustaining veil and the extra charge on the heavies in the longer fight so it's more situational.
you absolutely never want to be doing raw charged heavies with this, you always link into it with a charged normal or helm breaker because heavy pressure speeds the charge time.
add ghost arm for some verasility while charging your heavies, add other skills/passives, counterstrike, etc to round out your build, but the ones i listed are the core. also heavy's can be linked into heavies, but the timing to not drop the combo and get the slow charge is weird/inconsistent so i find the helm breaker link is better, but if you can get a feel for it you can do that too. oh, and the buff from veil is more important than the damage it does on cast, so don't be afraid to whiff it just to have the buff up and prepped for when you actually have an opening.
I found the skill where you jump and kick off an enemy and then slash down a nice one, especially against Skalpel when he rides his coffin
one uncharged phantomveil does that too
phantom veil is totally nuts skill, i don´t even need anything else
Edit: I wrote phantom veil but i meant Inner Fury
