Another censured translation of an Atlus game
Translators changed companion's personality, really?
I'm talking about fairy girl after seeing an article about it.
What else did they change?

P3Reload, Unicorn overlord and now ReFantazio. I'm not gonna buy any of these games even if I know that there are all awesome. Because I don't want to see another story, not what was originally intended by autors.

And I'm not even an English speaker, but as I understand, other translations based on English one. At least it's like it was in p3r.

Sad, because I'm an atlus fan since ps3/psp era.

Thankfully, Persona 5 Royal has eradicated any motivation to ever buy another Atlus game.
I won't be touching this mess with a 10 foot pole.

And yet you feel the need to comment on the boards of other Atlus games you never intend to play...how many years later? That's weird, man.

How will they ever recover from this.

I didn't find Gallica particularly rude in English. If anything it came off as just casual ribbing, nothing abnormal.
Yes, this, 100%. Especially given how she asks about how you're holding up with all the anti-elda prejudice when you try to go to sleep, and the vocal delivery there. Not to mention her saying that the two of you are "linked down to the depths of our hearts". She has a snarky expression but you can tell she's serious, too. She does genuinely care for MC.

I never noticed anything jarring when I was playing the game myself. Make no mistake, I'm no big fan of activists of any persuasion co-opting entertainment media in order to do some kind of biased political grandstanding. But that is far from what I see in either P3 or Metaphor. The changes, if any, are so subtle and innocuous as to not detract from the experience, and if I never went online I wouldn't even have realised they were there.

So while I understand the sentiment, I always find people boycotting quality games over what I consider to be fairly minor details to be quite an overreaction. Their choice, though.

I definitely understand why people are upset. I am a bit, but not too much
Would you guys say that Gallica is harsh in the En localization ?

I still don't like the use of "dopey elda kid" phrase

I've actually only played it earlier this year on Switch. And I don't need to justify my posts to any of you on a free discussion forum.
How I about I question your weird decision to pre-order a digital license for a product that is never going to run out anyway (at least until they shut down the download servers)? Will that get us anywhere? No.

I want to support good games and new IP at that, so Atlus makes more games than highschool Persona.

Atlus West, the studio responsible for the localization, is owned by Atlus. The translation is the story intended to be told by the developers.

Not really sure what you're referring to regarding "Translators changed companion's personality." The only arguments I've seen for that have made a poor case that only takes single lines out of context or other dialogue & vocal performances.

Also, you're really missing out by not playing Unicorn Overlord. It's fantastic (from the English only perspective, as I cannot read or speak Japanese).

Having worked in the localization industry in Japan proper, this is sadly not the case. Most Japanese devs/publishers have to "take their word" from English Localizers that they are doing it justice. Unlike the US, they don't try to force their culture and world view onto others, they don't think they know better - they trust that their creative works are being properly translated and localized.

Sadly, this often times is not the case. Translations and Localizations are altered and changed at the behest of the localizer and what they deem as "appropriate", not truthful or close to the original. As we can see in titles such as Yakuza, Eiyuden Chronicles, Fire Emblem, Dragon Maid etc. They will freely alter entire lines, inject new ones, or completely alter a character's personality and emotional justification for certain scenes.

Mind you, I don't think this particular localization/translation, given what I have seen of it, as "Woke". I do think of it as subpar and an abuse of a localizers position.

I pre-ordered because I already knew I wanted to play this game day 1, and there are also some small in-game preorder bonuses. Anyway, pre-ordering is not an abnormal behavior.

Specifically seeking out the board of a game you have no interest in just to announce that you will not buy it or any other games from that company since you were unhappy with one of their older games from years ago, is definitely weird behavior.

People wish to see the author's original vision, not the localizers projection of what they deem as morally right. Mistranslation helps no one and should be fought back against. That would be like taking Godfather and translating it in Japanese, but removing nuance, context, and changing them to talk like modern teenagers. It would destroy what the original artists were going for.

Localizations are like Christmas. People get started earlier and earlier every year.

No. She reads to me as a mix of playful, sassy and someone who expresses affection through curt quips and ribbing. I base this read on her dialogue throughout the demo and the vocal performance of the English VO.

It's largely the same group of trolls that do this on the release of seemingly every Japanese developed game. Their whole thing is just being angry. Many of them probably never even had an actual interest in this game (or video games in general) to begin with, and they just see this as another front of their ongoing culture war.

You have it backwards. The people who are annoyed at the constant mistranslations are the ones who actively want to buy the game and were excited for it. Those who are celebrating/dismissing the translation issues are people who had no real interest in the game and are using it as a front for their culture war crap.

Let artists tell their stories. Don't dismiss when localizers alter and change that story to fit their own world views.
Cosmic Spirit 3 out. 2024 às 10:42
Man, how hard some of you try to push these conversations towards cultural wars, insults and staff like that from both sides by using propaganda cliches.
My topic has specific theme and concern about the game being probably not the same as it is in original state. And there are enough arguments on the internet to have doubts.

It's totally fine to speak out about it when you really care.
