Exposition vs actual gameplay?
I enjoyed Persona but the endless dialog drove me away

I would call the pacing for this narrative "aggressive," particularly in comparison to Persona. It's very eager to push the narrative forward and get you into its dungeons and game play systems.

I expect this game will be more gameplay focused than the Persona games, but time will tell.

As long as I don't have to sit through continuous hours of meaningless dialogue again, it's a win for me.

Persona 5 was my only Atlus game prior to this. And before I get called a hater: Despite it's many aspects that in my eyes are flaws, it was still fun enough to play through the whole 100 hours :) It's just that I'd be happy if they change up a few things in this new IP that I wasn't happy with in Persona.

The biggest problem with P5's writing was the constant reiteration of the same points, in dialogue, then in texts, then in dialogue again...making damn sure the player would get the point, it was just unnecessary and overkill.

To some extent it may have been intended to ensure that people wouldn't be lost after taking a break, as it is a very long game, but even if so that could have been handled much better (DQ XI did that much more gracefully, for example).

I still enjoyed the game, but the writing was definitely overly repetitive, so far Metaphor's writing doesn't seem to fall into the same trap, though we will see when the full game is out.

Lmao oh yeah. The constant cell phone chats of "I'm worried " from the phantom thieves got really annoying. Especially if you finished a palace ASAP and had 3 weeks or so for social stuff.
Edit: "calm down" was my goto answer as joker. It was a pretty common response the game had too it seems.

I've completed Persona 5 Royal once. It's the best Persona game ever made and one of the greatest JRPG's of all time. But I will never play it again for as long as I live. I nearly had a nervous breakdown trying to skip read through never ending walls of text and the persistently annoying gameplay interruptions, just so I could get to the next awesome dungeon. It's a game I absolutely love and hate at the same time.

I'm thinking 50/50.

Thoughts now that it's launched?

So far there is a lot of dialogue but this game seems to have more gameplay to be honest. I feel like the game let you play more than persona games but of course I have only played 6 or 7 hours so it's probably too early to make a big statement

I've put in about 20 hours now (Steam doesn't count time spend in the long demo), and so far I think the writing is by far better than Persona 5's, the problem of excessive repetition is not present here, so the writing feels more dynamic in comparison.

There are still long dialogue sequences, but they feel more natural, and don't interrupt you nearly as much when exploring dungeons.

Agreed

Unlike Persona, this game is not a glorified visual novel and it's focus is more on the gameplay and dungeon crawling than reading dialogue.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Gonna take the plunge i think

From playing the demo, it feels like Personified SMT (derogatory)

It is its own beast, the Persona elements stop at the social links and calendar.

The game really is a homage to Digital Devil Saga.

I would welcome a Mantra board though.
