The UI is a problem
The UI is pretty, but over-designed and distracting to a point where it's headache inducing. It could work in any other game other than a game where we're constantly using it. Did nobody raise it during testing? It's far too busy and hard to focus.

Just seem to be the general Hashino ideology these days, gaudy and overdone being treated as some kind of art revolution.

My first? I've been playing their games for more than 20 years.

Did you play them with your eyes closed?

Considering the amount of praise and jerking over how peak the UI is, I'm pretty sure the only feedback they gotten is "make the protag's face in the pause menu bigger" and "keep it up".

People seem to like it that way.

most modern atlus games have ui that is really confusing on launch imo, eventually you learn where the important stuff is. took me until just before kamoshida to get used to p5, and just before the hydra to get used to smt5

I actually found alot of this game to be distracting but the UI is perfectly fine IMO. Many of the effects did irk me though, like the insane amount of particles and the overdone blur effect when running. I think the battle UI might be the cleanest part of the game.

The flickering edges and some of the other animations in the text boxes also gave me a negative impression.

The only thing that annoys me is the edge-of-screen sprinting effect.
Hope that can get modded out.

The rest of the UI is fine and identical to P5R/Soul Hackers 2/P3R.
Even that Expedition 33 game looks like it's going to be using a similar thing due to how much it's catching on and liked by most people, I guess.

They really only started doing this with Persona 5.

Regardless, I do think OP is kinda just whining. It's not nearly as bad and it's not something I hear people mentioning much. It's fine. I myself prefer minimalistic design but it's just preference.

I thought it was funny when the game starts and the pause menu is very traditional and boring. Then after a story event i press start and see the Atlus chaos pause menu and just laugh a little.

SMT5 was much cleaner and readable than this game and Persona 5, Just finished playing the expansion to it recently

I did found this UI more easier to read... than the one on Persona 5R. And it speak volumes..

it was better by comparison but it was clearly designed for a handheld format first with its big card focused ui, plus it was very busy within elements. once you learn where everything is and where to look it becomes second nature but its still pretty rough to learn
