These games need to be a little more clear about how they work. Does it actually auto-save after I pick an item? Maybe the fact that I picked up an item, yes... but when I reload wiill I have to start at the very begining of the dungeon and have to spend another 2 hours fighting my way through again? YES. This is worth being upset about, and if this doesn't upset you, maybe try feeling something every once in a while.
Auto-save's aren't that great. What if you just want to load your game and screw around without destroying your save file? Checkpoints(Save room/location) are important.
Plus auto-saving tends to introduce more problems to a game since it has to remember all the random elements of the game world and most the time things don't return to the state their in when the save is loaded again, it's just a state that is somewhat similar. Checkpoints are static locations that are usually the same every time and make re-entering the game such a better experience.
