And I don't want these games winning GOTY , would ruin them.
Regardless of your feelings, there is a general consensus from critics and gamers alike (which is rare) that the game is extremely good. Especially when you look at Metacritic, 94 score and 9.1 from users. The game is a bonafide hit, and for good reason.
You are right in certain aspects, and that's exactly why there's no way it's winning GOTY.
Graphics are not pushing and boundaries
The overall broad appeal and ease of access isn't there
It's niche, and I'm happy it being that way. GOTY requires a game that has very broad appeal, which I can tell you, I doubt a single one of my friends know anything about this game. (okay, probably one or two but most dont, who are also gamers)
It feels to me that Atlus has a dedicated fanbase that glazes over all their games, and for some reason, all industry media and all influencers are praising this game (often clearly having played only the demo and say clearly they have been sponsored by SEGA).
So this creates doubt in my mind.
I will play the game and come back with my review after 40-60 hours.
A lot of the great games in recent times like Wukong or Elden Ring have focused at gameplay, usually combat or survival and excelled at that while basically ignoring most else. Making them great experiences while you are playing them but not something that you might think about years later.
In contrast I think this game will have a more impactful and lasting experience on many players, much like say Lost Odyssey or the first Dragon Age or Mass Effect games.
SEGA seems to have gone all-in on promoting the game. So a lot of the reviews are bought and paid for. Shrug. Since its actually a great game I personally dont really care.
I think like all these generic EA, Ubisoft, Bioware, etc games, it will do fine for the crowd looking for a casual RPG with good entertainment. The gaming crowd has changed and no longer expects Dragon Age Origins level of quality or edginess.
Although I bought the game, having a genuine interest in it, it would be dishonest for me (who is usually upstanding and honest about any game or review) to applaud or ignore the fact that SEGA bought and paid for countless influencer and industry reviews. It's especially disturbing when you see very good reviewers blatantly doing a sponsored review (like Max Derrat who is usually excellent), and worst of all not even truly reviewing the game (having played barely hours in the demo) and calling it the best game ever: It's immoral, dishonest, and shows a terrible state of industry practices and gaslighting of audiences.

how tf did u spend 150hrs in the game? I did everything possible in my first run with no skips and all side quests (except the last alonzo one which i forgot to turn in lol) and it took me 65h + 10h demo (including grinding a ton of mag on last map), on my regicide run i'm 6h in and i'm alrdy in 2nd town because i just skip the dialogue now
Lol believing reviews are bought and paid for in 2024 is hilarious. Unless you are talking about YouTubers, that doesn't happen (or no longer happens) at major sites, it would have been whistleblown by now, like everything else does.
It's good, but it's got its flaws. Not up to the level of the Persona games either.
