Gunner feels like the worst lineage in the game
This class line in general feels so lackluster; the damage it deals never feels worth it, you don't get that many good passives from them, and Dragoon just doesn't work at all by the time you have access to it. What was Atlus thinking here?

Seriously. Gunner is the one archtype I'm not bothering leveling because it's so underwhelming.

Status effects aren't that great to begin with, so a class that specializes in having a chance to inflict them when I could just be doing insane damage with anything else seems like a terrible choice.

IMO it should have specialized in loading rounds that give the next attack(s) an element or status effect. That would have given it a lot of versatility with unique builds

I kinda agree? I don't think the whole line is worthless wholesale, like Gunner is good early game for pierces and leveling them gonna get you more AGIs, but the moment you have access to Dragoon; Martial Artist is just around the corner.
Actually it's Elite class is pretty good, you team up and you gain an ability Draco Ray that will ignore resistance and do full magical light damage to the enemy. Very useful at the ending stage.
To be honest, the jobs in this game are pretty lackluster in general. Too many feel half finished or just outright bad. Too much time gating as well.
Royal linage class at full level is pretty OP.
dev didnt think late game too much

everything is good in specific circumstances. nothing is meant to be used all the time.

its a decent class for the 4th party member since they are a tad bit squishier than our other ones AND it provides pierce strong skills which can be useful for specific circumstances.

its not amazing, but not horrible either. just average with its places it strives.

its most useless aspect is its status effect moves, they arent really worth and hardly work.
Its very useful for the first 25% of the game, and even then its usefulness is the synthesis skills. They could have at least made wild salvo in sniper do medium damage or something. I think if they went away with the merchant class altogether and gave gunner all the crit stuff it would be good.
Masked Dancer followed by Mage kinda overpowers everything else anyway. Add the 1 turn synthesis item and I was two-shoting everything without the other two party members regardless.

Gunner gives good piercing damage without requiring synthesis skills like knight.
Dragoon tho, does come too late and is held back by its required arch-types.
If you use the multi hit, aoe skills with an item that guarantes max hits, they can be very usefull to lay the groundwork for the other damage classes. Especially if the enemy is weak to pierce , like all kinds of giants.
I haven't been playing Gunner much because the real time attacks of Gunner sucks.

Honestly I have just stood to the "canon" class so far, except Hulkie to Brawler. It just werks.

I use Gunner all the time for the real time attacks. You can snipe from a distance and there's no risk of ambush.
Outside encounters weak vs pierce, yeah gunner is sadly disappointing.

They are ranged and heal the party. A must have if you don't want to waste MP / items to heal. Gunner / Mage / Thief are most usefull in real time combat.
