How to play? confusing....
I just got this for my grandson. It was on sale and I picked up two Lego games. I was surprised to find them to be very high quality programming and graphics. I'm running 2560 x 1440 all options on high and looks awesome. But at 57 - I'm confused.

1. it started in a dungeon? with robots and bearded man with staff. ?
2. all of a sudden I'm now in a construction site?

My may question: we're looking for a page in the instructions (mission). I killed most everything and repaired a generator. The glowing circles light up and there is a instruction page on the screen above. What do I do while standing in the glowing circles? I've tried every button on the Xbox controller and even hit many kb keys. I assume we get the page by activating the machine while in the glowing circles? Also - how do I open the golden lock? It says lasers will cut gold things, but no laser to be found in this level. I want to know how to play before my 6 year old grandson plays as I don't want him to get frustrated. (as I am).

The problem with the LEGO games is you can't 100% complete it on your first playthrough, as you progress through the game you unlock characters with speical abilities, it's these special characters you have to use in previous levels to open the golden locks for example it's only Superman who can open the golden locks.

Here's a video of the Construction Site Level, it may help.

How to end it if it can't be completed? At the construction site - I'm go get a page of the instructions. I smash all to be smashed, I repair a generator - there is a lock you say I can't open. (then what does one do to continue on?)

Ok, let me explain it. There is a story mode in which you can only use certain characters and proceed through the game (in linear fashion) finishing certain tasks or puzzles as requested by the story (that one you will have to figure it out or use many walkthroughs available on internet if you get stuck). During the story mode you won't be able to unlock all the collectibles like "pants" or "golden instruction pages" because you need characters with special abilities to unlock those. You can still complete the level without those, but you will have to re-play the level in free mode with the right characters to unlock them. What it means actually is that you will have to play each level twice to unlock all the collectibles.

If you are looking for the game to follow the movie, The game changes it so it isn't boring. After construction site you get to Bricksberg with Wyldstyle*. There you go on to doing normal missions.

*It gets confusing since you are being all over the place.

I figured out I had to change to the girl (I thought it was a man with a pony tail) so that I could jump high enough to get the instruction sheet. I've since progressed well. (never saw the movie) I don't think I could stand it). however this is an amazing game there is so much going on graphically at once with an awesome frame rate - I'm glad I got them for my grand son as I even enjoy playing them on my own.

the video walk through helped me realize to switch to the girl and I didn't know I could just tap "Y" fast. I was holding it down thinking there was a circle of characters like in the first scenerio.

Watch the movie. It is very funny. Watch it to the end, because it will make parents (and grandparents) see the entire story in a very different light.
