Game fails to start
I have all windows updates, all drivers updated, cleared appcache, restarted (numerous times...), and verified game files. Nothing seems to work (and I have the lates version of the game).
Am I missing something here? Running Windows 8.1, 32bit, GeForce 640... any suggestions? Is there a log file I can parse through?

I solved this problem for me. Hope this works for you. I'm using Windows XP on an old machine. Lego Movie videogame downloaded fine, but would not load. It would seem to load for a split second then close. I searched around and found that my DirectX wasn't current. I found this download on the official Microsoft site: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?id=35 . YOU MUST REBOOT YOUR MACHINE AFTERWARDS. After this, the Lego game worked! Good luck!!! If this works for you, please share this information with others.

just as a followup - the solution provided by melsila worked for me as well. I had been under the impression (by Microsoft) that DirectX was fully included in the Windows 8.1 platform. This is wrong. Once I installed it from the link melsila provided, Lego Movie Game started right up (without a reboot even ;)
Thank you melsila!!!!

The DirectX solution didn't solve it for me. It told me I was already up to date.

I had to put it into Windows 7 compatability mode, then start it up, change the resolution. It worked from then on for me

Running Windows 7, latest amd drivers for the radeon hd 7700, latest steam. It won't get past the Performing First Time Startup screen. It flashes that screen then disappears.

Ok, it worked!

Solution:

I had tried to upgrade Direct X (even though I'm already on dx11). It didn't seem to affect anything. However, when I went browsing files I found this directory:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\The LEGO® Movie - Videogame\_CommonRedist\DirectX\Jun2010

I ran the executable dxsetup.exe and it went through install quickly. I then tried to run the game and it ran fine!

Hope this helps anyone having the same issue!

I FOUND A FIX!
First download notepad++
then GO TO YOUR APPDATA FILE BY holding the windows ket + e
then type %appdata%
then go to ttales, then The LEGO Movie - Videogame
right click on pcconfig.txt and run with notepadd++
then change the screen width's and heights to your pc's native resolution.

EXAMPLE

ScreenWidth 1920
ScreenHeight 1080
WindowWidth 1920
WindowHeight 1080

Thank you! This is what works. Also, on mine, "WindowWidth" was written on the same line as "ScreenHeight" just after "1080." Make sure each Height/Width spec is on its own line.

I had to set my desktop resolution to 720p, then run the game. During the game, I had to go to the options screen and change the resolution to 1080p, which dropped the game back out to desktop. I quickly changed desktop resolution back to 1080p and clicked the icon, which brought the game back up and chose keep settings. It seems it will only run if the resolution it's set to matches the desktop. I thought Lego games were meant to be fun.
