Horses and their stats
Hey, so, I was wondering, is there a way to tell which horses are good? I mean, I assume the War horse is good, since they charge 10k for it, lol, but what about wild horses? can you run into some unique or really good ones, like in the 2nd game?

And can you tell before you catch them, or is just the "break them and check their stamina after" kinda way. Thanks.

If only we had multiplayer because the horse customization showed all the stats for each horse in the game.
war horse is the best

It's Grand Theft Horse, but you don't know horse's specifications.

So no point catching wild horses? I still have that one from Bonnie, its ok I guess, but I'd still like to upgrade at this point, just got to the southern part of the map.

If you choose to use the War Horse, then most of the time, no.

The War Horse was initially DLC, but since this port has all of it bundled in, you don't really need to care about taming or buying horses, unless you remove the War Horse via mods or simply decide to not use it.

Taming a specific breed of horse for the first time unlocks the deed for that breed at the general stores. The 3-star breeds are definitely worth it if not using the War Horse, otherwise, the 3-stars tend to only surpass the War Horse in only one attribute (e.g. speed, stamina) at the cost of having lower or equal stats in others.

There really isn't any incentive to tame one breed more than once outside of immersion as the deeds are infinite use. As for how you can tell which breed is which, the best the game does is give you a vague description of the horse's appearance and its rough attributes when using the Info prompt on a deed through your inventory or the shop menu.
Aaah, so taming a wild horse does unlock the coresponding deed, that's really useful to know. Yeah, I ll think about it, I'd go for the warhorse, but Iam nowhere near that kind of money atm, lol. So we'll see. In any case, thanks for all the info, appreciate the effort.
Unless you're playing on hardcore, you should have been give the War Horse and a deed for it at the start of the game.

The horse that Bonnie gives you is one of the fastest, actually. American Standardbred are the fastest horses, and they're all over West Elizabeth. The all black horses. Hungarian Half-Bred's are very fast too and they're found all over Mexico, and they're all white. You break all of them in iirc.

That one from Bonnie, the Kentucky Saddler, will be unlocked at the General Store since you catch one for that mission. Then you just have to buy it for $1500 / $750 in normal, or $3,000 / $1,500 in Hardcore. This is the horse I use the whole game in Hardcore.
The American Standardbred is noticibly faster than the War Horse and the Kentucky Sadler is more resilient so you might want to use them for those reasons.

No point in using the Hungarian tho, since his best stat is stamina and if you know how to make horses run you will never run out of stamina
War Horse is the best all around, though I believe both the American Standardbread and Kentucky Saddler are both technically faster. Personally I just use the War Horse. There is no point in the game where you need a fast horse as far as I recall and it's fast enough to where you can travel the map pretty quickly with it - and even then you have the campfire for fast travel so meh.
