Hello fellow structures!

It's April which means, it's time for another monthly update!

March was a busy month for me! I was in Japan to expo Building Relationships as part of Tokyo Indie Games Summit and then in San Francisco to speak at this year's Game Developers Conference! It was a real honor to represent Thailand in the global stage, and it's also been nice to be away from the computer for a bit.

So how's the progress?

My forearm's been feeling a lot better (I got a standing desk and have been doing my stretches). And the overall break has just been nice for me to refresh and really figure out where I'm at. I'm still planning for a 2025 release, things are still on track. Turns out, when you try to mash two genres together, you end up having to program & design for two different games (who would've known LOL)

I'm also excited for where the story's headed. I have plans for the themes I want to tackle, but I'm giving it room to breathe and maneuver towards where it's supposed to.

How was Japan?

Tokyo Indie Games Summit (TIGS) brought a lot of locals, it's a good reminder for me for which parts of the game is still slightly confusing to players. I've been taking feedback and made it more clear where you're supposed to go and what you're supposed to do (like during the cooking minigame).

Also, trying to explain the game in Japanese has inspired this little tutorial section.

How was Game Developers Conference?

Honestly really good! I'm so thankful to have been selected as a speaker to talk about a niche topic like formulating comedy. I was very nervous, but had lots of people say really nice things about the talk to me :)

Coming up with the talk really made me think about my own process and forced me to verbalize how I approach each story beat. A lot of the things I've done so far has kind of been done through instinct, but I now have a much stronger pulse on my trajectory and what I need to do to get there.

Anyways, here's a slide from the talk where I showcase my experience with writing.

Is it possible to get all the fish

So I got the big jumpy jumps from the tower and went around the island looking for all the fishing spots and can't see anymore that I haven't gotten yet, I'm missing just one fish, the one above flamin car. I even went under the map to try look for it and can't find it anywhere :(...

Hello fellow structures!

And just like that, it's March :O

Progress has slowed down a bit -- I've been dealing with some forearm strain (I think it's nerve compression from my set-up). Despite the obstacles, I'm still certain that Building Relationships will be out this year!

I've still got some stuff to share though!

Here's the cat tree I teased in last month's post

Animals in the world of Building Relationships aren't quite exactly like the ones in our world... It doesn't make sense for a house to be rolling around cats, so I made this little cat tree instead :)

And of course, you can pet the cat tree... What other animals would you like to see?

I've also been working on the dating sequence...

It's... certainly something.

I sure hope people will enjoy it (and sure hope my mother will not play this game lmao)

If you want to understand the context... you'll just have to wait for the full game.

Events and what not

March will be a pretty busy month for me, but excited for Building Relationships to be at the following events:

Tokyo Indie Games Summit 2025 (TIGS)

This event is in Kichijoji in Tokyo from March 8-9 and Building Relationships will be featured as one of the Cygame Pickup titles! So please stop by if you're local :)

Day of the Devs: San Francisco Edition

Building Relationships was first announced at Day of the Devs last year (during SGF) and it's only fitting that we'll be at another Day of the Devs event :)

Dev Update: New areas, more stories, TIGS (expo in Japan), & GDC!

Hello fellow structures!

It's February! Which means it's time for another dev update (that is definitely punctual and on-time). As we're creeping closer towards launch this year, I'm committing to providing monthly updates to keep you all in the loop!

So here's some stuff I've been working on

Have you noticed the new art?

I finally came around to updating the Steam capsule & key art! It took me a minute, but I finally learned what a "value study" was and what saturation does to an image lmao

What lies beyond the hill?

I've been writing more dialogue, shaping up more stories to tell within the world of Building Relationships. It's all coming from the heart, it's raw at times, and I'm excited for how you all will feel about it.

Speaking of more stories...

What's this? Broken pillars lying about? What's out there to uncover?

Now, onto some exciting news

Building Relationships was included in The Gamer's list of indies to look out for in 2025!

Building Relationships is going to be showing in Tokyo!

I'll be there to showcase the game, so stop by and say hi if you're local!

I'll be speaking at GDC!

I'll be talking about structuring games for comedy (going through fundamentals and looking at humor through patterns). I used to go to GDC many times as a student, but back then, I was constantly overwhelmed from social anxiety and imposter syndrome... So it's very exciting for me to return as a speaker and also as someone who's learned to recognize those symptoms :)

Building Relationships

Anyone else need to flip the vertical camera control twice?

I found myself flipping the vertical camera control with general use and the needing to flip it back during the furniture segment. When it comes to cannon controlling like in the furniture segment, does anyone actually like the vertical axis inverted? I might suggest keeping the furniture one locked to non-inverted if nobody actually likes that one flipped. Besides that, I loved the art-style and dialogue...
