Hand of Fate Boardgame Announced!
We're incredibly pleased to announce that Defiant Development and Rule & Make are partnering to produce a tabletop version of Hand of Fate! We will have more details after PAX Australia, but for now, I can tell you it will be a deckbuilder, it will be based on Hand of Fate AND the sequel, and it's designed for play between 2-4 players.

The full announcement can be found at the Rule & Make [www.ruleandmake.com] website, and future updates will be made available on the Defiant Development [www.defiantdev.com] development blog.

A little make or break question from me.
So this really sounds like a cool idea but how will you do the deckbuilding? (gonna word the question so i can get a generic yes/no or option 1 or 2 so if you don't want to give additional details if you rather wait for PAX)

How is the deckbuilding/boardgame going to be structured is it.
  1. We buy the boardgame/accessories to play the game and seperate card packs from your/R&M's site to get different cards. (aka how pokémon does it but maybe more structured)

    or

  2. We buy a big box with all the cards released (not counting any future expansions further down the line if it gets popular) and all the extra stuff required to actually play the game.

If it's 2 i am going to save up money right now and going to be hawk eyeing this project for a good while.
But if it's 1 i feel like i am gonna ignore it since it's gonna be hell trying to get friends and siblings to start buying cards online just to play a single hybrid game.

Like i said at the start i tried to word this so you don't have to give any additional details you'd wish to reveal at PAX and am just hoping for a generic yes or no so i don't have to get excited for something in vain.
Best regards whatever the answer may be, good luck with the project.
(also you need to release some hand of fate themed poker cards :P)

I believe the IndieBox's release of Hand of Fate[store.theindiebox.com] still comes with some if you're super keen!

That is sadly a little too much money for a card pack and a game i already own.
Would much rather use the money for the second game or the boardgame. But like do you guys not own the rights to print those cards yourself? Or is that all on indiebox, because i would gladly just buy a 52 card themed deck by itself if at all possible.

This one's easy: it'll be a big box with all the cards and other things you need to play.

I'm into tabletop and this game is one of the closest to replicating that feel that I've seen. Looking forward to the tabletop emulation of the game that emulates a tabletop dungeon crawl!

I'm a bit disappointed by the direction Hand of Fate: Ordeals of Kallas (HoF board game) is heading in - saw a screenshot on R&M FB page with four player sheets in front of the players along with four miniatures and was kinda sad that the game wasn't geared towards 1 vs 1 between the player and the Dealer. Now, if the game would scale well for two players I might change my mind, but I doubt that will be the case as this looks kinda like Thunderstone Advance at first glance.

Hard to tell what's going on exactly from a screenshot. Personally I would prefer a co-op against the cards, which pretty much matches the setup in the game. But as the digital Hand of Fate is a solo experience, however it is adapted to the tabletop for multiple players is bound to change some fundamentals regardless.

Well, they should at least make the game 1-5 players then, make it so that it scales well when you're playing solo or with others & program the card A.I. so that there is no need for a Dealer. Since I only have one friend that enjoys these types of games, I would be hard-pressed to get this game if it is simply designed to work the best with more than two players.

If they need more time to improve the scaling of the game, then they should certainly postpone it until it is perfect and not release the game in February-March (planned release date that R&M mentioned in one of the interveiws).

Players will take on the role of rival adventurers in the Hand of Fate boardgame, as the Dealer has been deposed by the time the game takes place. The current prototype scales well for 2-4 players, although a solo mode isn't out of the question.

February-March is the proposed date for a crowdfunding campaign, and definitely not the release date.

Is there any chance for a german version?
Lee 2017년 1월 5일 오후 5시 56분
We'd like to do it, for sure, but it probably won't happen right away. Given the text-heavy nature of Hand of Fate, it's understandable that a person would want to play in their native language. Unfortunately, since it involves a whole new printing/production process, it's an even bigger task than translating the videogame was. This might be out of scope for our initial run.

One thing we could look into would be making a print-and-play version available in other languages, since we'd hate to leave members of the HoF community without a way to enjoy the game.

Sounds like it will be a fun Game, Any Idea of cost for basic set, and boosters:steamhappy:
Lee 2017년 2월 26일 오후 10시 22분
We should have pricing information in a couple of weeks. Keep in mind that HoF:Ordeals isn't a deckbuilder like Magic, where you get a basic deck and buy booster packs until you can field a useful deck. It's a big boxed product with everything purchased up front. We miiiiight have expansions, but I dare not speculate as to how they work.
