While through steam its ordered with 3 month membership...
I'm wondering if you couldn't just leave steam running in the background, open your browser and enter the site from there ? Might give it a try .
Meanwhile I will ask over there about your problem. I've had it before too (6 year member) , but as was said, usually logging out and right back in fixed it.
In the future, additional patches might be available sooner via direct update via the web, but will soon after be available via Steam. The goal is for patches to be available at the same time. However, the web interface will detect updates sooner than the Steam client.
When you start iRacing via Steam, it does two things:
[1] It starts the service in the background, and
[2] launches the website so that you can log-in and select a session.
One you choose to join a session, the service starts the sim and you race. The session does NOT run in the browser. The browser provides the navigation between sessions.
For technical reference, when you "play..." it both runs the script StartPlayingNow.bat which starts the service via Start_iRacingService.bat and launches the web page https://members.iracing.com/membersite/steamlogin.jsp
A Failed Credential Check is most often resolved via logging out, and back in via the website. If that doesn't fix the problem, then support@iracing.com is the way to go.
Thanks for all the tips.
Perhaps ill make a youtube movie so other new users wont get confused. Honestly I too was a bit overwhelmed when I got started. There was so much on the website I didnt know where to go.
When you are redirected to the website, sometimes it will say "Your Game is Not Up to Date" in red letters, which means you need to download updated game files. You press "update now" and the website will begin to download and install the game files . NOTE: Sometimes the downloader will end up hiding behind the website so you wont see the downloader working. You can look in the task bar and bring the downloader to the front.
Once finished you can start driving and configuring by selecting the "Test" tab which will bring up a screen at the top that allows you to select a car and track to test on. This is the best way to get configured and test your setup. You can make several adjustments to the controller sensitivity, liniartiy, graphics and MUCH MUCH more..... This can take some time, but for now just concentrate on the controlls and the basic graphics (if you need to) so you can get started.
One the game has downloaded from the iRacing website (which can take some time especially for new users who have to download all of the files), you select the "Test" tab, select a car and track a green button will say "Test". You hit the test button and the game will launch automatically.
I recomend testing for a couple hours to get used to what you are doing before you try and enter a race. Time trials are also good to help get started.
About joining a race: Once you feel like you are ready to compete, select the "Series" tab and a list of available racing series will show up. The ones you can join will say "Select Series" and the ones you cannot will be greyed out or say "Purchase Required"
When you select a series I STRONGLY recomend running some time trials. You will race the clock and not with other drivers, TRY AND BE CLEAN (dont hit walls, spin or go off track). You can drive time trials to increase you SR and IR as well as a rookie race here and there to help get you out of the rookie class.
I am joined through the site and not steam, so I cannot show the entire process, but Steam just forwards you to the website, which from there works the same for all of us.
Ill see what I can do about making a video if you still need help. We will get you hooked up and ripping the track up in no time.
This is one of the positivces about iRacing, PLENTY of other drivers willing to help. Dont fret, we got you !
