What you won't see in AC, rFactor, Forza, etc.
iRacing puts on several events each year that iRacers can participate in. Some of them are for "pros" only but many are for everyone with the appropriate safety rating...current examples below:

iRacing 24 Hours of Daytona Set for January 31

The iRacing 24 Hours of Daytona is scheduled to get underway at 13:00 GMT (8am EST) on January 31. The opening round of the 2015 Road Warrior Series, the race will utilize the driver swap/team feature that enables two or more sim racers to drive the same car and/or assume various roles such as spotter, crew chief and team manager.

The event will be a multi-class race for prototypes (HPD-ARX01C) and GT3 (BMW Z4, Ford GT, McLaren MP4-12C and RUF Track) and is open to all iRacers with a road license level of D 4.0 or higher.

The top split will be broadcast by RaceSpot as part of its coverage of Road Warriors Series endurance events that will also include the 12 Hours of Sebring and the Bathurst 1000.

NASCAR iRacing Series Back in Action

One of iRacing’s most popular series returns to action on the week of February 17 when the green flag waves on the opening round of the 2015 NASCAR iRacing.com Series at Daytona International Speedway. Actually, make that two of iRacing’s most popular series as there will be distinct versions of the series for open and fixed chassis setups: the NASCAR iRacing.com Series Open and NASCAR iRacing.com Series Fixed.

The series precisely mirrors the 2015 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series schedule, with Gen6 Chevys, Fords and Toyotas racing on digital versions of the same tracks as Kevin Harvick, Jimmie Johnson, Brad Keselowski, Dale Jr & Co. on a given week, with three Open and four Fixed races each weekend. Both the Open and Fixed series will match the “full” 36 race Sprint Cup calendar through to the season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway in November.

“iRacing’s Daytona 500 is the highlight of the season for stock car sim racers,” said Tony Gardner, President of iRacing. “But it’s also just the beginning of a 2015 NASCAR iRacing Series which will take iRacers to laser-scanned versions of each and every track on the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series schedule.

“Last year saw more nearly 7,000 iRacers compete in the NASCAR iRacing Series Fixed and Open, and two great champions crowned in [name removed] and [name removed]. It’s a tough act to follow, but we’re looking forward to increased participation and the same great level of competition in 2015.”

Although the majority of both NASCAR iRacing.com Series races will be approximately half the distance of their real world counterparts, selected events will run the “full distance” of that week’s corresponding NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event beginning with the Daytona 500. The other full distance races will be Charlotte (the week of May 19-25), Michigan (June 9-15), Indianapolis (July 21-27), Watkins Glen (August 4-10), Talladega (October 20-26) and Miami-Homestead (November 17-23).

iRacing’s First 24 Hour Race Set for January 17-18

Like their counterparts in the Tudor United SportsCar Series participating in next weekend’s “Roar Before the 24,” iRacers are invited to take part in a pre-season test on January 17-18 in preparation for the iRacing 24 Hours of Daytona, the opening round of the 2015 Road Warriors Series, later this month. In addition to fine-tuning their virtual prototypes and GT cars during the test event, competitors will have a chance to familiarize themselves with iRacing’s driver swap/team feature that makes it possible for two or more drivers thousands of miles apart to race the same virtual car around the clock. As well, the test will enable iRacing to optimize the complex systems associated with staging three dozen or more simultaneous online races -- with upwards of 40 cars apiece -- for 24 hours. This test race will be an official race but will not count in the standings of the Road Warrior Series.

“Whether you’re talking about drivers, teams or sanctioning bodies, pre-season testing is an essential element of motorsports,” says Steve Myers, Executive Vice President and Executive Producer of iRacing.com. “It’s only fitting to have a pre-season test for our competitors and a final systems check before iRacing’s inaugural 24 hour event. Since the introduction of our driver swap/team feature last month, private leagues have successfully run scores of races lasting up to six hours with 50 or more cars. We want to make sure our first 24 hour race goes just as smoothly.”

iRacing’s Roar Before the 24 features the HPD ARX-01c in the prototype class while the GT class includes the full range of GT3 cars available on the iRacing service including the BMW Z4, Ford GT, McLaren MP4-12C and RUF Track. The class-winning drivers in all splits of the iRacing Roar Before the 24 will each be awarded $50 in iRacing credits and all participants will earn iTested Awards.

Scheduled for January 31, the iRacing 24 Hours of Daytona is the first official event in a 2015 Road Warrior Series consisting of virtual versions of some of the world’s great road races. The series will utilize a variety of cars with almost half the races being multi-class. It includes 10 races spanning all 12 months of the calendar with points being tracked all year long.

You also won't see iRacers in those sims, cause we use to race other sims before we discovered iRacing.Once you start iRacing 9/10 people don't go back.

Great events, and there are many many great league events every week such as 'Masters of Endurance' which use to be on Live for Speed.

iRacing has a great multiplayer setup.. I'll give it that, we've been racing endurance races long before iRacing was even around (ran my far share of 6, 12, and 24 hour races). RF2 has a suprior tire model than iRacing, you can blister, flat spot, chunk tires, and even blow them out.. (Yes iRacing can have tire blowouts but only when you reach 0% wear on tires). Rfactor 2 has long had active weather, tracks, etc.. something iRacing has promisted for YEARS yet still has not delivered on. (Could come this year).. RF2 is an amazing simulator that offers a lot of what iRacing promises, I however can say iRacing has the multiplayer part figured out best out of all racing simulators as of right now, it's the easiest to picup and play.

I guess the problem I have with most racing sims (even if they have better XYZ) is that they don't even come close to true multiple player racing found in iRacing. I mean why go racing against AI when no one is racing AI in real life? I haven't played RF2 but even if the physics are just a bit better, racing solo, or against a bunch of unorganized strangers is not my thing.

Will be a strange day when we hear F1 champion Hamilton say, "Well, racing against AI Google cars wasn't as fun but the physics were just plain better."

Don't get me wrong. Bad physics = bad racing too. iRacing however has excellent physics, though it might not be quite as good in some areas. I am glad they are working on those now.

It's been awhile since I've had time to online race in either iRacing or RF2. But just like iRacing there are leagues for rf2, organized endurace races etc. I belive there are a few links on the rf2 post on the other games in iRacing's forums that show as such.

"against a bunch of unorganized strangers is not my thing." Isn't this the same thing you do on offical races in iRacing? Truth be told while I've ran my fair share of official races and neared a 4000 iRating I've actually have better (cleaner) more consistant races against people online in rf2. More specifically you can race decently close without getting knocked 6000 feet from netcode.

Just my opinion though.

Curious as to when you experienced that, cause when I RARELY AND I MEAN 1 DAY IN THE YEAR I'VE BEEN ON RARE had a case of bad net code, it just made my frame rate jump all over the place. But I was never sent off track or into the middle of a car. It made restarts a pain in the ass for sure, but nothing as bad as what you're trying to say. Which by the way really only equates to the same netcode as the EUT guys, and iRacing sure as hell ain't them.
8vvduecevv8 Jan 23, 2015 @ 11:52pm
Yeah iRacing is known as having the best netcode which another reason why iRacing attracts and keeps the really fast guys.

jrtec. If you mean rFactor Leauge vs iRacing offical races. Them I'm sure you might be having cleaner races, depends on what car you ran in each. iRacing official series is more often than not very clean in the top splits right and much cleaner than many rFactor races I see.

iRacing leauges are huge and popular and some of the very best series and most competive and clean racing in iRacing are actually league driven.

I know they're huge and popular.. I help run one of the most popular oval leagues ;)

agree to disagree

the netcode is still bad when you're racing someone in ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ europe with a 256kb connection in the Dw12

got taken out by netcode from a guy in russia and i was a good 2ft away from his wing when it happened.
Kilgry Jan 27, 2015 @ 10:14am
Sounds more like a poor client side internet connection problem than netcode, IMHO.
K Steinwand Jan 27, 2015 @ 12:54pm
Yea, that's entirely client side. There's always going to be that one guy you come across who's got a connection that is questionable. It doesn't matter what game you play, you'll always find them.
jrtec13 Jan 27, 2015 @ 4:22pm
It isn't my connection, I have a 80-100ping I haven't seen much faster from people running on the west coast, it partly is client side but also the same time they do have control over part of the prediction code.

I find a prediction code to marginally better than in other sims.
Problems start only when someone has ping over 400. Ping 300 is still raceable. Which suggest that prediction code is actually pretty good. Considering that 300 ms delay during racing action is huge.
What I won't see in other multiplayer sims? good multiplayer races.....

Sure, you may consider it "clean" because there is no consequences but racing itself looks like mario kart :D

At least, thats my impression based on FSR streams.. They are door banging (fake) F1 cars all the time like nothing. It looks ridiculous.
