wait...what???
what's the score with this game?I buy it right, and that's it? I can play as much as i want alone or with friends no extra charge, that is correct?

Someone told me there's monthly fees and you need to pay to play plus new cars and tracks cost extra, he said that some players spend £100's a year on this game, cos, I got be honest that is ridiculous to me, subscription only, ok I get that concept but pay to own, then pay to play and on top of that PAY TO UPGRADE??? HAHA, HE'S KIDDING RIGHT? HE HAS GOT TO BE KIDDING ME.

Don't mind paying for non essential downloadable content but other than that no way, no chance, I expect to get the full experience at the initial point of sale, unless it's free to play/pay to winn nonsense in which case i ignore it and walk on by.

There is a subscription price and there are tracks and cars that require purchasing depending on what series you want to race in, the Rookie category requires no additional purchases.

You get basic content with the subscription and can pay to have different cars for different series. There is no pay to win as you can't really take a Corvette in to the class for Miatas, you have to earn licenses and rank up to unlock further classes anyway.

But having played this for a couple years before it is really good for learning tracks that I haven't been to yet or driving on some that are no longer around, I would recommend it for a simulation fan or someone wanting to try a simulator that is close as you can get without getting into a real car.

I am genuinely interested in getting this, I love simulations of all kinds and I like the way this has a decent rnking system for online multiplayer etc, I am just sceptical about the costs.

Can you try cars before you buy them? How will you know that you want a particular car if you haven't had a chance to try it out first, even a single lap test drive would be sweet.

No try before buy. Can always ask a fellow local iRacer for a turn on their rig and try the car. One thing you can guarantee is that because cars are built to a higher level than others, you can really feel the characteristics of each car, especially as the tracks 10x more accurate than other laser scanned tracks. There is a video somewhere showing the making of the GT3 BMW. You'll see how iRacing differs. They fly to the car, scan it, photo it and use all the teams data to make up all the geometry from scratch. Some cars will have flaws from time to time until iRacing updates them but they will keep updating cars to new tyre models years and years after for free.

Best sim ever bar none. It's the only place you'll find clean racing. Hardcore simulation, yes, but also great fun for causal players.

Plenty of ways to keep costs down. Buy what you need + renew promo codes etc and doesn't ned to cost much. If however you are like most racers you will buy everything and then at least it won't cost you very much each year after.

A noob question: how many cars and tracks are included in a basic/start/rookie subscription?
[AoS]Bullett Mar 16, 2015 @ 5:06pm
Six cars and 10 tracks split over oval and road racing.

Make no mistake, it's not cheap. It is worth it though, the best racing experience available.

I got a 2 year sub for $99, i have purchase some additional tracks and cars but nothing for about the last year. You also get money back for racing, minimum 8 times in a season gets you a $4 rebate every 3 months. Race in the right series and you can get $40 a year back in credits so a year costs $10. You don't even need to win or place for those credits just competing and finishing is enough.

You are paying for a service for the most part, they manage the races, content, everything. The downside to this system of course is the cost which eeveryone focuses on.

However, for serious racing there is nothing like it. The high cost comes with a very organized racing ecosystem that clamps down on the shenannigans which you find in other titles during online play. There is also a built in system to make sure the race isn't too unbalanced based on player ability and rating so even if you are a pro in the rookie leagues, you cn still get some decent competition during a big race.

So really the choice is, cheaper game with more questionable multiplayer experience, or a high price tag with a vary mature and serious player base. Personally I am a fan of iRacing because of things like this.

Thanks for your feedback. The more maturity on multiplayer and better organization is a must and adds value for the experience, sounds good.

Just to lay it out. At least once a year you can get your sub for half price which is either $49/year or $99 for 2 year but twice a year they also have a promotion where you can buy $100 worth of credits for $75 which means you can buy a 2 year sub for just $75. Some people also take advantage of iRacing credits from official racing. Just by racing on the service for more than 8 weeks in any 12 week season you can earn up to $40 credit per year, in addition you get $5 credit for every year of service which means after you join your sub could cost a little as $4/year but I would be misleading you if I left it there.

In order to get those credits you will need to race in series that require the purchae of additional content and this is where you can easily spend hundreds however once you have purchased the license to that content you can continue to use it as long as you have a sub.

The most popular series on iRacing is the MX5 series and that uses all free content so you can race around the clock in very competitive races for as little as $75 for 2 years or you can spend hundreds like me.

Either way I consider it great value because I don't compare iRacing to other games. For me iRacing is my alternative to real world racing. It is like a sport or hobby and is one of the cheapest I have done. I've spent thousands on BMX, Surfing and Cars each and sim racing comes in cheapest.

It's also a great racing game but I wouldn't recommend it to the average gamer who just wants another great car game unless the money is not an issue at all.
Kids and iracing don't mix.

I smell a COD kiddie.

its simple, you pay monthly fee for the servers, league managing, game updates (including phisics, graphical etc) and the service package and pay 10-15$ for each cars and tracks that take about 6 months each for a team to produce. Also if they make a new version of a track (redone from a to z) they will give you 5$ credit so you dant have to rebuy it full price or buy something else with it.

To be honest, yes it is expansive... but thats what it cost... its not ''overpriced''...

Also the fact that its expansive plus the safety rating keep kids away from it witch is a very good thing ;)
