iRacing

Mouse and Keyboard/Controller
unplayable with both dont beleive the company when they say it has support for them.

Edit: given you cant trust this community to tell the truth about the support for the game im going to say exactly what support is given at least from when i played it.

Keyboard isnt supported to steer the cars, thats done with the mouse and is so sensitive that youll spin at least a few times a lap. to play this game properly you need a wheel and seeing as youd only need this or rfactor to play a good simulation of track racing then justifying a $100 or $200 wheel is insanity but if you want to do that then by all means.

Just saying the company lies when it says support is there for mouse and kb. and i cant imagine controller would beat the 99% of the people who play this game which have a wheel so its pointless.

Its best with a wheel its a sim not a arcade racer. That said I got my first wheel off ebay used for £20 Logitech Driving Force Pro, yes a older wheel but still a great first wheel and you can pick them up really cheap. I now have a G27 more expensive yes but I loved Dfp. But there are many other cheaper wheel out there as well. I feel in order the get the best experience out of the sim you really do need a wheel.

I use a controller for the game and it works just fine. What do you find unplayable about using one?
Jay Mar 15, 2015 @ 10:12am
it's a racing SIM, WHY WOULD YOU NOT USE A STEERING WHEEL?!?!

because wheels cost way too much for being a peice of plastic that will only be used on one game. its like joysticks but at least theres more use for a joystick for tie fighter flight sim x plane il2 etc then a wheel for driving games... i have played the game before and dont itnend to again because they said its controller and mouse n kb compatible which they lied so im letting everyone know this so sue me for saying the truth man.

A Steering Wheel will work wonders? Now that IRacing is on steam i notice a lot more of new car drivers useing controllers or keyboard (not disiing controllers /keyboard users). They seem to wiggle lft /right going on the staight aways and turns.Driving all by your self is fine no cars around, but in a bunch of cars in a pax racing staying straight and holding your car line is a must in racing games (my opnion). There are cheap $ steering wheel for sale (E--y) save up. I have a Logitech Momo Wheel 9 yrs old ( $$$ ) still works not the best but makes Racing alot Easer , Better and FUN. (RAcing with a Wheel is the Real Deal)

iracing at least when i played it point blank wont work with keyboard controll. its pointless to buy a wheel because the ♥♥♥♥ you gonna use it for? rfactor? same as iracing its driving a car arounda circuit with simulation.

Both hard core sims rFactor1 and rFactor2 can be played perfectly fine with just a keyboard because of steering assist, but this feature is pretty rare for this genre.

Assetto Corsa is horrible with keyboard, because it has no steering assist and you can't adjust speed sensitivity. There is also no option for manual clutch.

They do "support" them, just because you cant be competitive with them does not mean they don't support those inputs. Just like you could drive your car down the road if they were hooked up right, but you would certainly crash. same thing here.
Associat0r Mar 15, 2015 @ 6:22pm
@1wild1
iRacing doesn't support keyboard steering, only keyboard accel/brake.

I have noticed since it hit Steam a lot more controller players. I don't fault them but they won't go far past the rookies like that. My hope is that some who really like it will stay and spend a bit of cash on a wheel.

And I get the argument about not wanting to buy a wheel just for a game or two, that is fine. But if that is how someone feels then they should really look for a different game.

If its a sim why spoil the experience with not having the right tools, racing you need a wheel. Flight you need a joystick. Thats what I feel and the people responsible for creating your sim would want you to have the best possible experience.
