Can you watch the ai race?
I enjoy setting up drivers and watching the races, is this possible with iRacing?

There is no AI in iRacing - you only race against other people. You can however watch races in progress and even join as a ghost, assuming you own the car and track.

Hmm, any new racing games have this ability? I haven't really bought anything since N2003.

iRacing does have ghost racing, you can join races as a spectator (providing you own the car and track), and watch the race, ride along with other drivers, or even join the racers as a "ghost" racer. When you ghost race, the registered racers don't see you, and you have no effect on the outcome of the race. You can drive through the other cars all you like, no harm done.

Watching real skilled human racers is much more entertaining and useful than watching A.I.

You can do it in Raceroom and rFactor2. Once the race starts you go back to the garage and then you can watch AI racing. It's completely pointless from my point of view but yes, you can do it.

I enjoy setting up a race and schedule and watching the races unfold, especially old historical races. I used to do this in N2003, I was hoping something more advanced had be developed that would allow me to do this again.

No. They're not putting AI in it. Whoever told you that is an idiot. It's been said many times over that there will not be AI in the service. Their goal for this isn't to be some arcade racer, therefore AI will never be in it.

+1

Ghini, there is also a real fun option for drivers to turn on the ability for you to join their race as a spotter and pitcrew. Of course, in that case you should be focused on that one particular driver and the cars around him during a road or oval race.

As others have said, You can't spectate an AI race, but you can spectate REAL races :) Which, personally, I find much more enjoyable (watch the top-splits, not the low splits)

Motorsport Manager maybe?

You can resign to the pits from races in PC2 skip to the end and and watch a replay of the full race in real time if you wish, but you cant 'set up the drivers', they are chosen for you. But if you play a career season all the same drivers continue through all the races in that season, which is very cool. And all the drivers have differing ability.

And you can do roughly the same thing in F1 2019, I think, where the drivers all remain the same as the real life counterparts, throughout the full season's races.
