A Warning to those who want to get into iRacing

This game costs BIG money. I thought it would be worth it so I bought the subscription. I even bought 3 tracks ($15 each) and a K&N car(around $15) once I got out of rookies. It is a really great game but when it comes down to it its really over priced. In order to race a full season in the K&N car You need to shell out around $150 on content on top of your monthly sub. The only reason they can get away with this is because there is no competition. Once a good Oval racing sim comes out this game will either lower its prices or die. If you have the $100's upon $100's of dollars to enjoy this game then by all means go ahead. I really do like it. Other wise stay away and buy something that is reasonable. e.g. Assetto coarsa, Project CARS, DiRT Rally, etc.

***This is not a slam on iRacing, this is just a warning to those who might want to get into this game. Please don't flame and complain about how superior iRacing is or how stupid I am.

First of all those tracks you just purchased will give you access not only to the K&N series, those tracks will work also for other nascar series, and there are a lot of them to choose. Also, you made a mistake, you should have waited for the credits discounts and buy the content in bulks, this way you will save a lot of money. For example, iracing have a credits promotion a couple of times per year (next will be on december), if you buy 20$ iracing will give you 25$ and if you buy 75$ you will get 100$. Also, the bulk discounts are great, if you buy... lets say... 6 pieces of content you will get a 20% discount.

And you can avoid the monthly sub completely, you can buy the yearly plan at 50% (they have that offer soo many times through the year...), meaning you only will have to pay 49$ per year... But wait!!! There is the participation program discount, if you meet the minimum participation requirements you will get 10$ per season... iracing have 4 seasons per year, so, you will earn 40$ every year, plus, iracing will give you as a gift 5$ every year. So: 10+10+10+10+5=45$ for free every year. 49$-45$= 4$ you only will have to pay 4$ per year.

For me is cheap, the quality you will get in here is unmatched, and if you manage to catch the offers... yep, it will be "cheap"

sorry, they are either $14.95 or $11.95...is that better? They are never $10

You are right though, you don't have to buy anything until you get out of rookie...but it took me 2 days to get out of rookie. Then I had to shell out my hard earned cash to advance. around $30...and now that I don't have this weeks track so I can't even use my $30 in content.

You sound like as somebody trick you, or mislead you... no, there is the information, is public... you can see the series schedule before the purchase of any car, the cost of every item, and of course you can see if you have all the tracks and if you dont have them you can see how much you should spend. There is free content and there is pay content in iracing, or do you expect those 12 or 13 free tracks will repeat on all series all the time? Also, there is plenty of fun on the free content, Im having a lot of fun on the rookie series (road side) and for now I dont have the urge to move up or buy more content, nobody will force you to spend any money.

Now I see your true intentions in here, I already gave you some tips on how to save money and explained why you made a mistake buying content like you did, but you are here just to bash the sim because thats your agenda, and of course, you ignored completely my message because you dont care at all.

No, no, no. I made an impulsive buy without realizing how much money actually goes into advancing. I had read the prices obviously but I didn't really understand that you don't get to choose what track you want to race on and that if you want to advance you must pay out.

Sorry I didn't make that clear. BUT just to reiterate iRacing is a GREAT game and is really amazing...if you can afford it. I just want to maybe help out the few people who are like me that buy things without doing 100% of their research sometimes.

You either pay the iracing price and race as much as you want or you pay the smaller price for assetto corsa, rfactor etc. and be in ghost town/wreck town. Your call.

I mean, we have several guides on how *Not* to purchase tracks and cars, and how to gain credits to do so. There are also several instances of people who have found ways to get discounts on the system.
