Regarding the Downtime
I'm not a staff member, I just follow it fairly closely.

Essentially, the downtime is caused by a complete replacement to the backend portion of the website designed to allow for the upgrades to the User Interface in the March build. However, there have been many unforseen problems between the backend interface and the download modules. Currently developers are staying up all night to work on the issues, while some are going to sleep to allow them to work in shifts to figure out the problem. For the time being, Steve has started the process to revert the old website back so that we may be able to race. Hopefully this issue will be resolved quickly, however it appears much more complex than it might seem. The best thing you can do is offer your support and let them know it's ok, and remember, developers are human.

Here are the latest updates from Steve Myers:

Downloads are working and old maintenance page is back because we switched back to the old backend to see if we can find any clues.

At some point I have to tell these guys to get a few hours of sleep. They have been at this since 4 AM ET

Here is the link to the download - http://members.iracing.com/download

We are going to leave the site like this until we find the smoking gun with the new stuff. Bulk of the guys dropping off to get some sleep

Handful of guys continuing to work to get new site going - rest will wake up early and start porting code back to old site to get it back

(Asked about the site being down until tomorrow) Unless we find the smoking gun on the new site. We are looking in a lot of different areas.

We still have guys working on it but most are getting a few hours sleep to clear their heads and start again

I am punching out for a while to grab some sleep. Sorry for the extra long wait. This was not the rollout plan we had mapped out....

Steve has been offering insight to the current issues since about 3pm EST today. Honestly, I'm very supportive as they have been very open about the issues they are having and have made several efforts to try to get the latest build online. What's your thoughts?

Developers are human, this is true but those same developers decided to charge us monthly service fees, instead of a one time fee of say $49.99 for the game license. So, I'm sorry they are having a hard time but I will and do expect extra days to be added to my current membership because of this lengthy downtime. Just my thoughts.

About 5 pages worth of people on the forums disagreed with you. [or 3. Someone asked about this on the forums. No one cares. It's week 13. It's unimportant. Most serious iRacers (about 70% of series participants) treat this as a goof-off week, they mostly stick around to test out the new game features, but a lot of people just go away for a week to get a break. Between them paying out Participation Credits for racing, the constant specials (black friday, etc), no one sees a few cents (13.8~ cents to be exact if you buy the Black Friday $50 for a year special) to be worth the hassle of getting an extra day when they already give us plenty of credits just for racing anyways. We'd rather them just take the money to make the sim better rather than ♥♥♥♥♥ about 60,000 players getting something worth 13.8 cents, requiring them to be paying some poor bloke to override their system to give them that extra... etc.

You're gonna fight a losing battle with that argument. (It's not going to happen, likely. If not because the devs won't want to, because the community already agreed for the most part they don't want it.)

Huuu, still down :( and thx 4 the highlights m8!

Hope the damage is not too big and they can fix it soon. Very tempted to the new content ;D Not only me, i guess ;D So far patience and stay calm m8s!

Question:
Thinking here to add my iR account to steam. Can I use the old way over the browser to log in also or I am after the add limited to steam only log in? Dont want to be dependent to steam.

You can login via both. I do :)

Just go into your "My Account" (when the service is up) and get your key, then get it setup in steam. Note that there are some extra steps to copy your existing files to the new installation folder for steam. But once you do, you can have the steam overlay in game and etc. I find it useful to access my web programs for detailing setup changes :)

Edit: Also, there's an extra step to enable the steam overlay on the iRacing homepage. I forget where it is but I'll find the guide :D

Thx 4 answer & sounds good :D

Copy...? so you have 2x iR on disk? ;D Steam and nomal? Its no prob, place enogh... ;D

Yep, I know. here the guide:
"You can get the Steam overlay without adding iRacing to your library. Just go to the root of your iRacing installation (Default - C:\Program Files (x86)\iRacing), open "_useSteam.txt", and change the 0 to a 1. Of course, Steam won't log your hours for iRacing and it won't show up as in-game to your friends, but it's a good way to get the overlay without needing to add the game to Steam."

no, it installs just a launcher/wrapper in steamapp/iracing folder. it is 111Mb size on my computer. The core iracing application remains in its folder.

It may be a goof week, but yet we are being charged for the goof week. I have plenty of other games to play, a goof week isn't really what I would call them providing a service. Oh and by the way, those other people you speak of, don't earn my paycheck. I do.

They also didn't purchase all the cars and all the tracks for me, for my account. I did.
When you put it all together and add everything up, iRacing comes off as a money hungry company, and then asks us to be patient to boot. Which I am for the most part, but when something I am paying for goes down, i expect to be compensated for it.

You don't go into a gas station, buy gas and then let the guy behind the counter borrow some of it back do you? No. Why should iRacing be any different?

@Wolfman : i do not care about the downtime, but if you care (apparently you do) Just send a polite mail to their support service to request an extra day to your membership. You are a customer, your thoughts are legit (i dont shared it, but i undestand your pov), so deal the issue with your service provider, not with us, other customers...

Just because you pay for differents things : You have to understand the difference between a product (gas) and a service (iracing)

Have you ever had ISP outage, electricity outage, water outage, etc... ? did they give you money back ? have you ever been in front of a broken ATM ? did you request your bank some money back cause you were unable to use your card and you pay to have a card ?

When you pay for a service (instead of a product), you have no garantee (or it has to be stated in the contract as a SLA - Service Level Agreement) that the service will be available 100% of the time.

I used to work in payment solutions in banking, a serious business, our SLA allowed us to have 8hours of downtime in a single year. more than that and we had to pay financials penalties to our customers...

This is how the wolrd works, the gas station is absolutely not a business paradigm....

Agreed with Jeje here. If you want your $0.13 worth of a day back (one you'll probably be at work or etc anyways), you should contact the staff and ask them about it.

It's good to know a little of what's going on, it's not a big surprise. With all the changes they're implementing, would of been a miracle to get it all in without issues. I have no idea what the work intales but I'm sure they'll figure it out.

As far as I'm concerned, this is game-changing, pioneering racing sim stuff that's going on, so like in Apollo 13, work the problem guys and good luck!

Can't wait to give the ring a go!

I know for a fact, they have enough to keep them busy at the moment. He asked for peoples opinions and I just gave him mine. Unfortunately, my opinion wasn't really what he was after or wanted to hear. He wanted people to come in and agree with him apparently. Well sorry, I don't. I treat their service, as something that they asked for it to be in the very beginning. A service.

What I do, is what every other diehard sim racer does, I'll file this as iRacing ♥♥♥♥♥♥ me again, and when I get fed up with it, I'll be done. Its up to them to decide if they want their service to have customers or not.

Lithium you sure sound like a developer to me, or maybe a boot licker, which is it?
