Worth it for open wheel racing only?
Hi guys, never played Iracing. I currently play assetto corsa and assetto corsa competizione, though I'm really tired of mods and the lame colision and damage model for open wheel cars, wings and tyres don't fall. I'm thinking about using ACC for GT cars and IRacing for open wheel cars and just abandon the original asetto corsa. I have watched some videos and it looks really realistic for open wheel cars. I might start driving a real Formula Vee next year, and it's also in IRacing, so extra points for me (I just need to get a pedal with clutch and a H shifter first). I want to reach F3, and I would like to know howexpensive it is. Or should I get another game such as rFactor 2? I mainly want to play online competitively.
Here it is a league race I did on F3 cars in Assetto Corsa: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j1iOmxG0oGk&t=2884s

well it doesn't have a magical damage model. And Iracing can be a bit pricey. But the formula Vee is one of the better cars on the service and is also free content. Iracing is 95% online multiplayer, there is solo practice if needed. Also black Friday special is 50% for new members till December if you get a full 1 or 2 year subscription. If you decide to , definitely use the website and NOT steam since it will be cheaper in the long run and skips a whole bunch of install issues. The F3 community is also very strong but is known to be a little rough and tumble.. just an fyi.

I would say it is. You can run a full Formula Vee season just for the cost of the annual subscription as the car and all required tracks for the season are included for free for this series.

iRacing is easily the best system for online racing and the only one with full online championships and seasons built in. This is it's main attraction along with the very high number of users (100,000+). You can race full grids pretty much any time of day or night in many different series. However if you just race offline, there's no point buying iRacing as other sims are much better at this.

If you are buying a year's subscription, always buy it during Black Friday - currently 50% off for new members, 25% off for renewals. You can also earn credits for completing a season (max $10 per season), but only for A, B, C and D Class series, not Rookie series like Formula Vee.

It gets more expensive beyond Rookies as you have to start buying tracks to compete in a season (currently $14.95 + tax per track). A season lasts for 12 weeks, but you only need to complete 8 - but that's still eight tracks you need to buy (maybe less if a free track is included in the season) plus the car if it's not an included one (currently $11.95 + tax). There are, however, discounts for buying 3+ tracks/cars at once.

As the previous poster said, I would recommend buying through iRacing rather than Steam (you still get a Steam link code to show you in-game and record your activity).

Open wheel series are not as fun as they should be. There is very low participation at the higher levels and lots of crashes. If you are only going to run this, then skip, you will be disappointed in the amount of money invested. If you are going to run other series, then sure, but the open wheel series is one of the worse to focus on. The community is split between people who dont care and those who are elitists.

If you are interested in F3, go for it. Its one of the more popular series, but thats about it when it comes to open wheel series.

They are adding a new F1 car next year, but i doubt participation will be high.
