Close all running processes in the background before starting up iRacing, that often fixes iRacing issues through Steam. Trying to use an other web browser to connect with iRacing might also help. Otherwise contact iRacing support, because it's kinda a waste of your subscription if you can't even play for that long.

First, go to your task management. Then close all running programs that content Iracing. After that, it should work fine.

This error for me has always been because the exe Steam is trying to update is running in the background. It's a while since I played iRacing - does it's UI app start up with windows? Might be worth checking that in Settings >> Apps >> Startup

I'm putting this here for visibility as I've seen a lot of posts of people saying they have this issue but I've never seen the fix documented that worked for me.

Bootsy (above) is right in the fact that a process was in use.

The log file here:
D:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\logs\content_log.txt

Showed the following:
"File commit failed: installed file locked (File locked)"H:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\iRacing\iRacingService64.exe"

Under Services - services.msc - is a service named "iRacing.com Helper Service"

To get the update to install that came down today, I had to stop that service, continue the download and start the service again

You could also go to task manager -> processes (or details) and kill the running iRacingService64.exe process. You may still need to start the service manually again afterwards

Task manager -> Details (tab) -> tap 'i' -> find iRacing End Process -> Restart the download in Steam.

This is annoying but it works, I have just done it myself.

We have solved this problem for years now, how is it we don't have a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ thread stickied is mind boggling, Its legit every update that this problem comes out and people start panicing ..

Useless mods not doing their part

Also you can just switch over to iracing directly and never have to worry about this again

None of these have worked for me, I don't even have a process related to iRacing running at all. And yet paid my sub days ago. WTF, I'm just giving up on it, once support comes back to me it's better to just not play on steam at all.
