iRacing
Some questions as a new player..
Im new to iRacing and have yet to start any races or TT towards getting to a D license. Ive been practising on some tracks, getting used to the car and tracks.

1# With Practise where you can drive with other players on the track to get used to traffic etc, it seems Practise and Qualify and Race is all one session, when one finishes the next starts?? like Qualifying etc.. so can you quit or withdraw before the Practise finishes and do another Practise if you want to?

2# With getting promoted, using Time Trials how many clean laps do you need to do to complete or pass a time trial to get promoted? is there a laptime target you have to meet? or perhaps just complete all the laps as cleanly as possible without trying to smash a time target? Perhaps what is more important is to raise your Safety Rating as a rookie with these required 4 Timed trials?

3# Schedules; are the times shown on the iracing browser for race/prac/qual starts etc are in what timezone? do we have to convert it to our own time zone via GMT + or - or its converted for us?? because on the 'Official race guide' page it shows my date and correct time with schedule of series below.

4# The Rookie Series. How does this fit in with doing required races to move to up to D liscense? i mean can you pick any of these races in the series just to get your license and not do any more races? and those who want to keep racing to get more experience will do so and get. To me it looks separate, like a championship series. Or is there hourly races somewhere where its not a series and no series points are scored for those that want to just race one offs or work towards getting promoted or improving their TTrating etc?

Thanks.

Practice sessions are their own thing, you can run them as much as you want whenever you want. Race sessions consist of a warmup, qualy and then the race, you can go from practice to the race session by signing up for the race and then joining practice that way.

Promotions - From Rookie to D, you need a Safety Rating of above 3.0, and 4 races/time trials. All others you need to be 3.0 at the end of a season, or you can get instant promotion at 4.0 with 4 races/time trials at that licence level.

The timings for sessions should have both the GMT time and your local time, so nothing to worry about there.

Rookie series are things like Mazda Cup, Street Stock, Rookie GRC. Anything that isn't them is an unofficial series and won't count for anything. Once you get to D licence many more series open up to you, some with free content but the majority is stuff you will need to buy to race.

Thanks for your reply.

Is Time Attack and Time Trials the same thing? someone suggested doing the time trials is a better way to go to avoid being crashed into etc. I clicked on Time Attack > Schedule and it shows all active TA but to the right i can only click on Details or Results, i cant seem to be able to join?
I figured it out. I have another question though, when the countdown during time trial finishes the chequered flag comes out and then the countdown resets to 1:30 and starts to countdown again, why is this?

I exited the session once the flag was shown, when it loads the results page it doesnt show the bottom half and the Session ID says Undefined. Its happened twice now, but my iRating did go up.

Ok. If you have any other question i will be happy to help if i can ^_^

Okay thanks Harpixel. I do have another question. I noticed a lot of tracks and cars are behind a paywall, and to do a series that might have 10-12 tracks would get quite pricey. Is it possible to say buy half of the needed tracks to be able to enter a series and only compete in events you have tracks? or would it be unavailable until you own them all?

I guess another way would be to buy the most popular tracks and hope to find community run series that might only use 4-5 tracks and in the meantime save up to purchase more tracks.

The plus side is once you own the tracks you can use them for other series i guess.
Once you own the tracks you can use them in any series as long as you have the licence and car. Even if you have 1 out of 12 you can race in that series on that 1 track you own. I hope this asnwers your question :D

If you own the track for that week, you can race. There's no requirement to own an entire season. Same as you only need one car from a series, so you can do Blancpain Sprint Series only owning one GT3 or example.

A good idea is to look through the schedules and see what is coming up for the series you want to race in. For example, if you want to run road races, I would suggest buying Daytona 2012, Watkins Glen and Road Atlanta, they appear in most schedules nearly every season. Buy content in groups of 3 or 6, you get good discounts for those numbers, and also the more stuff you own, the bigger a discount you get on all content purchases. (I have 100%, so I get a 30% discount on everything, I think its 10% at 25 items, 20% at 40, then 30% once you have everything)

Most series the schedule is decided either by the community or on a system that uses tracks based on popularity, so you will see the same places crop up constantly. Some schedules are even synced up, we just had IMSA go to Motegi in week 2, GT3 went there week 3.

Just an extra note, if you complete 8 out of 12 weeks in a season, iRacing will give you UP TO $10 that you can spend on more content. Rookie, D and C class series offer $4 each whilst B and A series offer $7. There's also discounts at least twice a year on iRacing $, so keep an eye out for that whenever you are looking to make purchases.
Thanks James for that detailed info!

There are 2 different types of practice sessions.
1. Open Practice
2. Warmup

Open practice is a session in which you can get into 2 ways.
1. Registering directly for the practice session on the website or new UI.
2. When you register for a race in the 30 minutes prior it will simultaneously register you for an open practice server that you can hop into while waiting for the race server to start.

Warmup is the 3-5 minute session when you launch into the race server before Qualifying. You should not withdraw once the race server starts. You are locked in and if you leave, you get last place automatically and lose a bunch of iRating. This prevents people from leaving after they see their competition in fear of losing.

It will say in the F1 black box how many clean laps in a row you need. On road courses its either 4 or 7 depending on track and on oval its generally 10 laps.

You do not need to meet any minimum speed. TT is just an average lap time competition with the added benefit of an SR boost and MPR fulfillment.

The goal to complete a TT is to do the required laps consecutively clean without any incident. If you need to do 10 laps, and on lap 8 you go off track, the lap counter resets to 0 and you need to do 10 more.

On the website It lists in both GMT and in your local timezone that you have set in your account settings. You dont need to convert anything.

Every series on iRacing runs on an hourly schedule. Every race, as long as it goes 'official' (gets enough participants), will count for your promotional requirements. You only need to do 2 races minimum to get promoted out of rookie (4 races for all other licenses). If after those 2 races you have an SR of above 3.0 you will get promoted. If not, keep racing until you get above 3.0. Theres no harm in doing as many races as you want. Every bit of experience helps.

Each race also counts towards the championship standings. You get championship points for your finishing position. There are no seperate 'non-championship' series as you stated. Its all one thing. Im not sure what your seeing that would lead you to believe there was 2 seperate series.

The only exceptions are the "Fun" series. These are the Carb Cup, Dallara Dash, Pickup Cup and Industriefarten Fun. These series do not count for anything and are purely for fun.
