Could I run DR3 with this laptop? (FYI I am fully aware of the bad optimization)
before you ask, yes, i am fully aware that the PC version of Dead Rising 3 has poor optimization, as ive scrolled though countless "Not Recommended" reviews on the game's Store Page, as well as watching both of Totalbiscuit's videos on the PC version of Dead Rising 3

now that its been out for about a month now, been patched 5 times, and people have had at least some experience with the PC version, do you guys think i could run DR3 at maybe Low/ Medium setings at 720p while maintaining no less than 20-30 FPS?

anyways, here are my specs:

:Horzine:Model: Lenovo Y50 Laptop
:Horzine:Operating System: Windows 8.1 64 Bit
:Horzine:GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 860M (2 GB of dedicated memory)
:Horzine:CPUIntel Core i7 Quad @ 2.4 Ghz (3.4 if overclocked, although i do not know how to overclock my CPU or GPU)
:Horzine:16 GB of System RAM

For reference, i can run Dead Rising 2 on its highest settings (not sure about AA though) at a solid 48 FPS (my laptop's monitor has a refresh rate of 48, although IMO its not a big deal becuase it still looks super smooth). Other very demnding games i have on really high/ultra settings at varying resolutions include Tomb Raider 2013 (720p, almost all ultra, about 30 FPS), The Witcher 2 (1080p, all ultra except Ubersampling, around 30 FPS), Crysis 2 (1680x1050, Ultra, 30-48 FPS depending on situation)

all *positive* feedback is appreciated! thanks!

Optimization is not the big issue with this game. There is certainly room for improvement, but being underspec and unwilling to admit that is, in my experience.

AFAIK, the 860M meets the min requirements, but not by much. Your CPU however at default clocks does not.

This does not mean that the game won't run , but you need have realistic expectiations.

Note that how any other games runs, esp DR2 because it's so old, really has no bearing on how this or any other game should run. DR3 has much higher requirements than any of the games you mention.

i understand if referencing older games that have much lower requirements doesnt exactly justify playing a newer, more demanding game with higher requirements, but are you sure im below minumum? i have 2 GB of dedicated VRAM, the same as te recommended amount on the store page, 2 GB, and a Quad Core i7 procesor, compared to the recommended Quad Core i5 (although the recomended has a higher clock speed, im guessing it will sort of balance out or dip slightly below, although im not 100% certain)

FYI, the reason why i mentioned being able to play older games on Ultra is because each game may be using slightly more or less VRAM than the minimum requirement of newer games when played on High or Ultra settings (I.e. when i tested out the PC version of GTA IV on my laptop, i maxed out all of the settings and it estimatd that i would be using about 1107 MB while playing). i dont think The Witcher 2 would only use 512 MB of VRAM on Ultra, nor would Crysis 2 or Tomb Raider

i may not have as much experience with gaming PCs as you claim you have, but im not stupid, im just trying my best to analyze based off of what i know and my past experiences

It's good that you fully understand how badly optimized this game is
thats step 1

now i have a laptop as well
my GPU is a little bit lower than yours
however my CPU is higher

i can play this game DECENTLY (aka 23 FPS not including memory leak issues... and all the other issues it has)

Medium/low 720p/900p (whatever you feel like it honestly doesn't matter because whatever settings you use you're going to get bad performance)

it can run... fine not acceptable though but... playable

Also this game is unlike any other
as in the developers were losing sales and they stuck an xbox one disc inside a PC and called it a port

i personally don't play it because i hate CV now
Capcom Japan is cool though
Vancouver? just disgustingly lazy

also do not forget that they havent really fixed any ingame bugs yet besides the whole crashing thing
it's almost as if they never heard of beta-testing

i EXPECT by..... 2015 october they should have most of the bugs gone

======================================================================

Now getting the HORRRIIIIBBBLLEEEE optimization side out of the way
it's truly not a BAD game
it's quite fun if you can find an area that gives you acceptable FPS
i would even go to say that it WOULD be more fun than DR2 and DR1 combined
but it's port is just so atrocious that it literally makes me stab out my eyes and wish i never saw this

personally i should have guessed something was up when they released it on a friday and for a cheaper price
some im partly to blame for my high hopes

thank you so much for your replay! i had a feeling that Buck was off on my system being below minimum, and i appreciate you sharing your personal experience and performance details with me about Dead Rising 3. MAYBE one day, if its on sale for CHEAP, ill try it out even if the optimization is still bad by then, im not intereseted in buying an Xbox One for Dead Rising 3 (although i would buy one for Sunset Overdrive, as im a HUGE fan of Ratchet and Clank ;P):ss13ok:

If you ever do get a cablebox one (i don't plan on it, PS4 is better by fact and graphics)
i do reccomend picking DR3 up for xbone rather than PC
it's a fun game it just wasn't meant for PC

(i also want sunset overdrive.... ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ xbox and their ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ contracts)

also you can trust me
with all the hate Dead Rising 3 has been getting you will surley find it for less than 20$ sooner or later during an upcoming sale (you can get it for 14$ on select websites... itl get blocked if i tell you so i won't bother)

I (thank the 9 divine) got it on GMG for 34$... i thank whatever force pushed me to get the extra discount on gmg because it was not worth what they were selling it for

EDIT:
this is also a life lesson
never preorder a next gen game ever again

i also preordered watch dogs and i was... dissapointed
but Watch_Dogs had a better port so it wasnt that bad\

i also plan on waiting for Unity
blackflags has ALRIGHT optimization

you pre-ordered Watch Dogs too, huh? i got it on PS4, and even though you wont experience stuttering or lag that the half-assed PC port does, its still a pretty bland and generic Gears of War/ GTA wannabe thatll put you to sleep faster than Dead Rising 3 PC would crash at launch. seriously, i returned it back to Gamestop a month later, even though i only played it for no longer than a week. no joke; it sat on my shelf for 3 or 4 weeks before i finally decided to send it back. at least Gamestop gave me $40 back, much better than holding onto a load of trash and not getting anything back:Dosh:

I find it amazing that gamestop gave you a whopping 40$ for it
over here i'd probably get 20$ back with a complimentary dildo

granted, they were holding an extra 50% crexit towards trade-ins at the time (back in late June i think), and im a Powerup Rewards Pro member or whatever its called, so i got an additional 10%. without both of those bonses, they would only give back like $25

Buck is not trolling & has a genuine desire to help people. That's more that can be said then users only wanting to curse or cause harm. Your report on this member for "Trolling" seems unnecessary & can be seen as abusive over time. Please be more thoughtful when using the hub functions.

8gb ram

its run good @ 25 FPS on medium settings and one option on high @ 720P
i just finished DLC episode 1 after i finished the game

i really enjoyed the game

so , you have GTX 860m , i guess you can run it at stable 30 FPS
if you cool with 25-30 FPS , then the game for you

not to be rude, but ive seen Buck on other threads in the Dead Rising 3 forums as if he is purposefully trying to start a flame war or something. besides, i was just asking for inut from other Steam users about how DR3 could run on my laptop, and Buck tries to claim that im underspec, going so far as to saying that "youre unwilling to admit it" or something, even though my laptop meets, even slightly exceeds, the recommended requirements. i dont see how thats "underspec" :/
