It's due to cloud. Disable cloud saving, then play for a bit (your local save must be newer than the one on the cloud). When you quit the game, re-enable cloud saving (if you need it). Upon starting the game again Steam will ask you what to do with save files, choose upload to steam cloud, done. Should be working fine after that.

P.S. I did reset my story completely by deleting DR3 folder from \Documents\My Games\
i had the same problem works 100 %

Im having the same problem. I disabled cloud saving and for some reason my saves don't load. I have restarted the game at least 12 times because I am unable to continue.

I can run the game at 60 fps at 1080p but cant get very far because everytime I quit to do something else I have to start over
i have the same problem did not notice it until i came to chapter 4 now i have to start all over again =(

This worked for me as well, but I think I may have discovered what's going on and a way to keep your progress.

For me, I started on one PC and then continued on another, which prompted the Steam Cloud saves to download to my PC. I wasn't able to continue my game, but after following the instructions here (disable cloud saves, and delete the saves in the Dead Rising 3 documents folder) I was able to initiate the Continue option.

However, I saved a copy of my old save files and compared them to the newly generate files by the game. The capitalization was removed from the steam cloud saves in both the file names and extensions.

Normally this doesn't matter for most things, but I copied the names from the game generated saves over to my steam cloud saves that had all my progress, and then I pasted those saves back into My Documents/My Games/Dead Rising 3 Folder.

Booted up the game and BAM I have all my progress and am able to continue from where I last left off.

Could just be a coincidence that the capitalization thing had any effect, and maybe there's another save thing somewhere that stores whether or not you can initiate a continue, but whatever, I'm able to continue my progress now, and I didn't lose any of my work.

Hope this helps someone in the same boat. Spent a lot of time looking for answers this morning, so maybe this will save someone else some trouble.

Thanks for this! Exactly the same issue, but able to fix.

Disabled Steam Cloud. Moved 'dead rising 3' subfolder in My Documents to another location. Started a New Game and got far enough in to justify a save. Quit to Main Menu and it allowed me to continue my old game. Then exited the game, and checked the new 'Dead Rising 3' subfolder in My Documents.

As above, only thing that had really changed was that upper case used in filenames (directory folder and filenames of saves). So changed the filenames of my old saves to replicate the new ones (changed the required characters to capital letters), copied them back across to Documents/Dead Rising 3/saves replacing the old ones, and now they work! All quest/character progression where I left it!

Thanks again for the help!
