Even with the threat of the bomb and such... doesn't feel nearly as rushed when trying to explore or accomplish anything as I did in past Dead Rising titles.
Dead Rising 4 is a Dead Rising game.
Something is only good if it's the exact same thing as the first one. That kind of thinking is very short-sighted.
Dead Rising's big claim has always been the number of zombies you fight. It's settings and characters.
The time element, was a cheap game design to force players into a sense of urgency.
It works in some ways, but also hurts the games in others.
The time limit does not make a game Dead Rising or not.
When talking with other fans, I don't hear "the time limit was great" brought up. It's the weapons, the number of kills... the psychopaths... the odd sense of humor.
Dead Rising's identity is built on it's personality. Not it's cheap design mechanic to force players into a sense of urgency.
You won't be able to do everything on your first run but the Dead Rising games are designed to be played several times with multiple endings. Each playthrough makes you stronger through leveling and you get to know the map better so that you'll be able to beat the game and maybe do every optional quest in one run later.
That is what I like the most about Dead Rising.
Yes... because reviews are always, one hundred percent, completely correct. Like a word of god or some Fact based statment. Right?
Reviews are nothing more then the opinion of the person who wrote them. And, even so... going by Metacritic, the difference in scores between 2, 3 and 4... is so small it's pathetic to try and use review scores as a basis to say Dead Rising 4 sucks.
Reviews I've read/watched have all said yes, DR4 makes changes. But, that it's fun, performs better then DR3 did. And Frank is funny and a joy to play as.
It's like people saying Resident Evil 7 isn't a RE game because it's in first person.
Even though, it's the closest thing to a true RE game since 3. From 4 and on the series stepped WAY away from the originals.
Dead Rising 4 is Dead Rising. So it doesn't have a time limit, it seems, maybe... Capcom felt that players didn't need to be rushed through, or they didn't need a false sense of urgency.
Maybe, they wanted them to explore and enjoy the world.
Now, I love the Dead Rising series. But, really, for me... the first game, is not my favorite.
It's clunky. Movement is sluggish, the dodge move leaves you open too long when you're trying to get back up.
It's far to easy for a Psychopath to hit you and manage to just beat you to death in a matter of seconds because of how long it takes Frank to get back up.
It's a good game, but, people view it with nostalgia and the thought that "It's the first, so it's the best".
Hell, DR2 improved incredibly by allowing you to move and shoot. That alone fixed a lot of issues.
But, I didn't like Chuck nearly as much as Frank.
DR3... I really, really like.
Nick... isn't anything special, but, he's got my name so I like him. :) But, I love the world, the weapons and vehicles. And the far more refined and improved movement and gameplay.
And DR4, while not much time in it, the writing is great. Frank is very funny and engaging. And, I'm glad I can explore the world at whatever pace I wish.
I know you can unlock those modes in past DR games. But, really, having to race against a clock just feels like a cheap way to add challenge to the game.
And, the worlds in all the DR games just beg to be explored and picked through. For me, it'd be like setting a timer on Fallout 4.
Such a large, fantastic location... but... you can't explore it. You have to run through it because if you miss a time limit... you fail.
To each his own.
I love each entry, but, none of them are "flawless" or amazing. They all have a charm to them, but they each have their own, original bit of jank as well.
-Difficulty's downgraded, and that's bad for aa dead rising game.
-♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ story
-NO COOL BOSSES? wtf! NO PSYCHOPATHS? ARE YOU KIDDING ME DR4?
-Frank west is not as charismatic as he was.
-Not funny, at all.
-On the other side, no difficulty, no time limit, just..."fun"? That's just boring.
