You can run around all freely and (It's a ton of fun to kill the zombies!) But there's obviously the main story missions and a ton of side missions to do! (Challenges/Save survivors/Psycho (Boss fights) to finding blueprints for new weapons!) not to mention coop is cool too!
yes you run around kililing zombies. Think GTA w/ zombies. The missions you do are very simplistic. It tells you where to go on the minimap. They're just chores mostly. I never ended up doing all of them because of how linear they were. Exploration is basically the same as any other "open world". Its a map with limited places to go but zombies everywhere.
Instead of it beind tied into the events of the case files you can do the case files whenver you want so long as you complete it within the time your given.
