Help, how do i craft weapons?

I just got this game, and its great. But i missed something, as im playing the story-line, it already got me to craft a weapon and a car. But how i do this myself?
Is there a special button to press or a specific location to craft?

I realy didnt read anything, neither using google to search for: How to craft gives me a proper solution.

Id hate to start the story mode again.
