Try loading steam first with admin rights.
Do you mean the steam directory or the one that is located under "documents/my games"?
Loading steam with admin rights didn't help.
Edit: I also noticed that I cannot reset my progress. I can select it and a message telling me that my progress got resettet appears, but my save is still there.
Either way there is nothing set to read-only.
Maybe the save itself is corrupted in someway? try moving or deleting it(keep a copy somewhere).
Try turning off the Steam Cloud. From within the Library in the steam client, right-click the game in the list & choose "Properties". In the pop up click "Updates". Uncheck the option under Steam Cloud.
Try giving the game.exe Admin Rights. It's located in the Steam installation directory. Right-click it & choose properties, select the option to give it admin rights, click apply.
You could try changing the compability of the game.exe (though that is a fix for some peoples load up problems).
Do you have the game installed on a external drive? Try installing to a different drive.
The game has apparently a problem with my Windows Username, because it contains a "ß" letter (I'm German)
Dead Rising creates 2 Documents folders on my system. One under C/User/My Name with an ß/Documents/My Games/Dead Rising 3; and another one under C/User/My Name with a weird symbol instead of the ß/Documents/My Games/Dead Rising 3
In the first one are the save files and in the latter one the graphics.ini data. I assume this "split" causes the game to be unable to remember my graphic settings.
So if anyone has this problem too, check if your Windows Name has an unusual letter.
Anyway, thanks to Mikfail for your suggestions
My Windows username does not contain any special letters, so I don't think that is the cause for my issues.
Any help or advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
UPDATE: Found the solution! I followed Mikfail's advice and set the game's exe to run as an administrator. After that, the gamma and subtitle settings have saved. I know this thread is several years old at this point, but thanks for posting all those suggestions Mikfail.
what exactly did you do to fix this issue? im having the same issue and located the file that has the unusual letter and changed my computer's name, but it's still not saving my settings
It's been a while, I don't really remember. I think I copied the save file from the folder with the weird messed up symbols to the regular correct folder, but I'm not sure.
Did you verify the game files after changing your PC name?
