Rogue most useless class?
So after regretably rolling rogue instead of brawler, Im pretty much stuck as my damage has never gone past 20.
Using two one handers doesnt seem to have any bonuses to it so Im using shortsword and a shield.
And Im at the point where I cant even 1v1 the huge trapper crossbow fatties that heal.
So either tell me what Im doing wrong or Im rerolling brawler :<

Or are my level too low? Is it valid to backtrack and farm levels?
I'm doing it. I picked the balanced class and even at times I've felt overwhelmed.

I am level 35 now and recently just beat The Worshiper.

You have to get combos to do good damage by timing the left and right attacks correctly. If you pull it off you do more damage than a Brawler. Also, if you're not doing more damage than 20, you obviously either do not have the proper attributes for a weapon or are not using a good weapon.

Ive never seen mentions of the timed attacks and all my points are in agility.

To be honest i've also started with rogue.
I just stopped to pretend, and went for strength/faith/endurance instead of agility.
Gotten myself some medium/heavy armors and Heirloom + shield.

Arguably, the best thing about Rogue class is the Deception skill tree.

If you're trying to kill the fat crossbow guys before going through the Pathway, then you're gonna have a hard time. If not, then you probably either have bad equipment, or don't have the attributes for it.

I would not recommend Rogue for the first playthrough unless you are really hardcore.
As a rogue you have to be flexible, switch to one-hand and buckler when you need to parry (parry is a very powerful tool against slow attacking strong mobs).
Or switch to daggers and do the timed combos, the "weak, weak, strong, strong" combo of my starting rogue does the same damage as my NG+ hammer warrior.
Or use staff and buckler for a more versatile runaround.
Rogue is a wonderful class but its hard to get into.
If you have an excessively hard time with it, take a break and make a warrior, invest some points in magic, use your gauntlets, its the easy way out of everything, then when you feel more at ease with how the game works you can come back to the rogue and enjoy the finer aspects.
Experiment a bit to find out something that you find easier to play and stick with it, i think that the trick with this game is finding a good entry point for your particular playstyle.
Last but not least, dont forget about the spells....or the gauntlets

Yea, the problem with me is that I didn't know his tactics and what the hell was going on in the fight. Also that I like to over prepare. In theory you can kill him not leveled at all, but again, I over compensated for nothing because after dying 3 times to him I found out what I was doing wrong and finally killed him. I thought it was me (which is was), but I was going in there with the wrong tactics and trying to bash the living hell out of him instead of taking my time.

I'm playing Rogue right now and absolutely enjoying myself using nothing but a pair of fist weapons I got really early in the Keystone Citadel through the hidden wall. Rogue is awesome to me. Less boring than Warrior that's slow as hell.

What? Is there something you don't understand?

Behind a bookcase, secret spot, two very fast fist weapons. It's pretty much right at the start too.
