It's single player. Do what you want to make the game fun. My first playthrough was completely vanilla. I struggled a lot, usually disoriented, often lost. I probably had 100 beacons at one point marking things. After that I used the map mod for the in-game map that uncovers as you explore. I enjoyed the game a lot more. I don't use the online maps that pinpoint everything.

I used the map mod for the second playthrough. By now I know where everything is.
Have you tried the craftable markers?

In a way yes. Getting lost and wonder around the ocean is intended experience.
Have you tried using beacons? Crafting recipe can be found in safe shallows, usually around wrecks or life pod. Very cheap recipe: 1 titan , 1 copper
Should be mentioned that The Map Mod, the most commonly used SN map mod, has "fog of war" map masking by default. So it does not give you any information about areas that you have not gotten within ~60-70m of, unless you choose to turn the masking off.

And you cannot use it handily while in motion, or in 'action'. By design, I think.
Though it is easy enough to use when you can take time to open your PDA.

I actually consider it to be almost a QoL mod.
No harm if you are so inclined, but I like to carry a beacon and i just rename it for the area I'm marking "Sealed Wreck" Diamonds galore" or such I used to craft multiple ones but then i was like just move and rename the flipping thing.

Mods aren't cheating. Cheating isn't even cheating. Cheating just disables achievements.
You CAN'T cheat.

It is a solo adventure game.

All you can do is decide how You enjoy playing the adventure ... this time.

Cheating isn't multiplayer term. The main point if you feel ok cheating in solo game.

They sure can be.
It all depends on what you define as cheating. Personally a map mod isnt cheating to me, but then I have a bunch of mods that most would probably consider cheating, but it's because it's the only way I've been able to play without the game giving me a panic attack.

Nope. In a singleplayer game, you cannot truely "cheat" as that would imply an unfair advantage. But what most people would consider a cheat isn't unfair in singleplayer since there's no one else it would be unfair to.

Cheats is not a multiplayer term. Wake up and look up meaning of cheats.

In old games with build-in mods to give some kind of items, feature, ability or some wacky modification that can give minor to major advantages they're literly called "Cheat-codes". And everyone knew that and didn't pretend they are not

I never said that it was a multiplayer term. I just said that something can only be a cheat in a multiplayer game and explained my reasoning.
I believe you mean this meaning of "cheats", that confirms my reasoning:

You cannot be dishonest if there's no one to be dishonest to (ie, singleplayer game) and there's no one it would be unfair to in a singleplayer game. (as I've already said)

Cheating in a video game means gaining an advantage beyond normal gameplay. In single-player games, this is often to make the game easier to play.
