How & What To Eat?
Okay, so maybe this is a dumb question, but how do I eat? I've gathered up a bunch of Acid Mushrooms, but when I left click on them in my inventory, nothing happens. I just started the game and now I'm (quickly) starving to death.

Any help would be super appreciated!

First (no offense intended) do you really think ACID mushrooms are edible? You need to gather fish and bring them to the fabrocator to be cooked or salted for preservation. Cause if you leave them in your inventory for too long the will spoil except for preserved fish.

Best source of water is using bleach (coral chunk+salt deposit). It makes the biggest source of water.

Raw fish last indefinitely. Cured fish last indefinitely. Cooked fish don't last very long at all.

As far as I can tell water also has no degradation.

Thanks for the advice, gang. With 1% on my hunger meter, I caught a fish, cooked and ate him (or her) and saved my bacon.
np jason ;p btw...are all the fish in subnautica genderless/omnigendered?

They used to be.

Not sure what you mean, William. In general, fish are either male or female. And to answer your question where you mocked me concerning the acid mushrooms: the answer is, according to an older guide, those kinds of mushrooms were previously edible, hence my confusion and the reason I started this thread in the first place.

Those of you who were being helpful--big thanks:)

You can also eat raw fish, but there's a hit to thirst and they aren't nearly as filling to your hunger. You can also eat creepvine, but that's even worse food wise, and it decomposes very quickly.

One of my earlier encounters with acid mushrooms was when I accidentally slashed one with my knife. It released a cloud of acid which brought down my health somewhat. So, I was rather shocked to heard that Subnautica once had acid mushrooms as a food source. But I have heard that before; it's unfortunate there's a old guide out there with outdated information.

And note: DO NOT EAT DECOMPOSING CREEPVINE. In the last update they made it so that it *lowers* your food and thirst meters.

And yes I learned this the hard way (before the update you could still eat decomposing Creepvine) - I almost killed myself cramming down a bunch of decomposing Creepvine immediately after the update. :steamfacepalm:

First find some titanium and quartz and craft an air tank to give you more diving time. Then catch some slow fishs like the bladder fish to turn into water and another slow one into cooked food until you're full.

Then try to get the resources to craft the gravball and use it to trap fish. The knife for cutting corals and gather salt to get better water with bleach. You also might want fins for speed.

The stillsuit and the rebreather are more difficult to get, as well as the builder tool. You need to find the right resource places. But they are most important.

The stillsuit will get you practically free water and only needing to care about eating.

The build tool will allow you to build new bases where fish and resources are. Very important. The rebreather is for the deeper diving using less oxygen.

When you have those things, set up a base at the coral tree biome, where you can hunt slow and meal rich fish without predators around. A few minutes hunting and you get food for days stored in your aquarium (don't tell this Nemo or your kids).

Dude. 2015. If they don't know by now they likely don't care.

*Edit* There's a misspelt word. No I'm not saying which one.
