Is there a compass?
I have searched high and low in the interface, but I see no possible way of telling directions, as in North, South, East, West. Even watching the sky helps little as I realized its just several layers rotating around, seemingly as I were standing on a pole. So, for a while, i thought "Alright, it's super minimalist, and I just have to devise a way of my own to know whether I'm coming or going, lol. But everything I have tried to look up, people keep referring to cardinal directions, like "Northwest of of you escape pod." And that's not helpful when I have no idea which way in north.

TL;DR Where is a compass, or a way to tell north?

Until then, the Aurora wreck is Southeast of the lifepod.

It's impressive that you made it so far without the compass! Glad you were able to find it though.

My first run I missed beacons for like 50 hours. It happens.

The Aurora is big and close, and your starting lifepod position varies slightly game-to-game so the direction can vary a bit. The wreck as a whole is roughly east, the nose (where you access the inside) is more to the north and the engines are more to the south. The ship itself is pointing north-east.
I personally use a system called "Auroran north" where I just label the direction of the Aurora from the lifepod as "north" and navigate based on that.

The sun rises due north and sets due south.

When you only have two hours of Day time before it switches to Night that's not a whole lot of time to orientate yourself with direction, like others have said the Aurora is a better landmark to use because its always gonna be visible due to its size.
