Reaper Spawn Locations/Dealing With Reapers
Did the reaper spawn locations change in the prawn update? Are they fixed, or random? In all my previous playthroughs, the debris field behind the Aurora's engines was always relatively safe (if fairly deep to explore without a Seamoth) and a good place to pick up signals early game, and the occasional Lithium.

My latest playthrough there is a reaper right above the trench, making it basically impossible to collect anything down there.

Is this normal? How do you deal with reapers, anyway? I just found out on my last session that a) They WILL come to the surface and b) They can outswim a Seaglide. That was an expensive death...

I have experienced the same thing. I did manage to run and hide in the kelp forest before I lost my Seamoth though. Ran like rabbit with a wolf on my tail as soon as I saw the faint shadow of it. I'm not much help with the "How to deal with a Reapers" without a shock thing.

My only advice is what Sypher said to Neo in the Matrix; "If you see an agent, run like the rest of us..." lol

I had a reaper show up there even before the update. That one even likes to follow into the nearby shallow area too, so I'm surprised you haven't seen him before.
I've escaped several times from Reapers with a seaglide, because I decided to try and figure out how to beat them, which I successfully did by the way.

1) REAPERS ARE FASTER THEN YOU IN A STRAIGHT LINE!

With that in mind you want to go in a circle while also going up making sure the beasts face never actually faces you and that you are turning constantly. To make the Reaper easier to dodge, I actually drive the sea glide in reverse positioning myself facing the beast while circling around it and going up.

2) I haven't tried this since they changed the predator aggro. I know sand sharks now chase you forever and they do not reset after a certain distance, if Reapers do not reset anymore like the sand sharks then this method would no longer work. As you'll just be kiting the Reaper as long as you have batteries for your sea glide.

3) Monitor your battery power, it's embarassing when you are successfully avoiding the Reaper only to be eaten by it because you forget you are running low.

Lobster is correct. A Reaper turns like a truck so the Seamoth's agility can save your ass. An example of this is in the first 5 seconds of this video by me swiming to avoid it's grasp lol:

there are more reaper spawns. and a tip, get the seamoth sock sheild, if a reaper grabs you turn it on and watch there brains blow out.

^This video illustrates a couple of important things that can help you survive a Reaper attack.

1). Reapers prefer your Seamoth to you, but are not attracted by the presence of an empty Seamoth, only by the presence of the player character.

So - If you're in Reaper territory and don't want to lose your Seamoth to a Reaper, jump out and get far enough away from it that if he comes over to investigate *you*, he may not see your Seamoth (if it's far enough away). I've never heard of a Reaper attacking an empty Seamoth if the player is not nearby.

Flip side of that is that if you're more worried about dying than losing your Seamoth, you can always offer it up as a sacrificial chew-toy and make your getaway while it's being gnawed.

2). As mentioned above, they turn like a freight train. You cannot outswim them, but you can outmaneuver them.

3). Those big external mandibles on its jaw make it hard for it to bite down on something if there's any terrain or debris nearby. If it's you vs. Reaper, hug the seafloor or side of a cliff, or find a little crevice to squeeze into until it swims away. Even two empty cargo boxes - if you can squeeze in between them, it's going to have a very difficult time actually grabbing and biting you.

Watch how after the initial attack I squeeze the Seamoth into a little nook here and even tho he's right on top of me, the Reaper can't grab me and eventually swims away.

There actually seem to be fewer reapers around the Aurora now (the one on the near side of the ship seems to be gone, for starters).

Also, you can absolutely juke a reaper if you move up or down as they're attacking you (not sideways, you'll get caught on the pincers and funnelled toward the mouth). They usually lose interest immediately if they miss you and just sort of wander off. They're more flexible than they look, though, I've seen them double back on themselves as well as swim sideways when trying to get me.
The one at the side is still there. There used to be two that spawned there in the last update (at least for me, they both spawned every time).

There were always two reapers patrolling the rear of the ship but it is a big area and sometimes they leave and don't come back for a very long time, but it is very risky.

Best bet is to build a cyclops first and hide in it if the reapers show up, until they wander off again. If you have the perimeter defense, you can actually chase them off if they drop in on you by shocking them. Otherwise you have to bust out your seaglide, pray it still has some power left, and do your best to keep them going in circles until they get bored and wander off.

what do you mean the sandsharks don't reset? they do now. there's just more of them and they head for the kelp forests and "safe" shallows now. oh and i've seen a stalker and a sandsharks fight now. it was funny. i had a sandshark on me near a forest and a patroling stalker saw this and decided the 'shark would make for a good meal. so he bit the 'shark, which turned around and tried to bite the stalker, and under that cover, i slipped away back to the shallows.
Having the most modern equipment, I understand that Leviathan is nature's creature and he does what he does. Even if I can kill him, I'd rather run, because my goal is to explore. Not the genocide of these creatures. He is just defend his home or wanna eat.

what do you mean the sandsharks don't reset?

For me and lots of other people on the forums, sometimes the sandsharks do not lose aggro when they are chasing you. It's a glitch and they should reset, I never had that happen until after the update with the changed predator behavior.

I miss when Sandsharks were mellow and would only get mad if you got super close to them.

Not too fond of their overaggression now. I punch every single one I see to death in the prawn suit because I'm tired of them.
Front aurora Heck aurora and the second island are Reaper territories
even befor the update

But i think there are more Sandsharks they annoy me more then the Reapers XD
