I know there are many games that excell, even without a multiplayer. But unless this game has the same depth as Witcher 3 or Skyrim, I won't buy it without one. Also open world sandbox survival games are the perfect genre for coop multiplayer! I'd understand if there was some serious story with consequential decision making. That would be a reason why adding coop is way to hard or (nearly) impossible.
But just because the code structure of a game isn't perfect for adding in netcode in an easy and convenient way... that's just a bad excuse in my honest opinion. They wouldn't be the first studio to rework some things.
This is a discussion forum, so why not just discuss such things?
As far as multiplayer game-play there isnt enough depth to keep multiple people playing for too long except once you have explored a bit and created a base or 2. A ton of new content would be required.
To me, this game feels like it's all about exploration, adventure, and discovery. The building and surviving is incidental. It will likely not have the same depth as Witcher 3 or Skyrim, because it doesn't have millions of dollars and years of development history behind it. Subnautica 2? Sure, bring on the MP.
If this game had a multiplayer focus, I wouldn't have bought it just as I didn't buy any of the other 172198 multiplayer sandbox survival games on Steam. Neither will I attempt to inject a conversation on the merits of a solid single-player experience into any one of those 172198 discussion forums.
Sorry if I sound like a ****, just real talk.
I dunno man, seeing XXXDARKSEPIROTHXX and MLGproALEX streak by my screen in their Cyclopses typing dank memes in all chat kinda ruins the point of the game for me
I still can't understand why people wouldn't want (or even hate) multiplayer in games. From your answers I can guess you really had bad experiences with trolls, griefers or rage kiddies. And I think you really missed my point. I am not talking about online multiplayer with loads of foreigners who simply ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ around. I am talking about playing with 1-3 FRIENDS, who want to explore and play WITH YOU.
No offense taken!
The thing is, if you look at all those other games more closely, you can easily see that most of them are basically minecraft clones, poorly designed and often unfinished.
Also, I haven't seen an >underwater< sandbox game with a comparable scale so far. We have tons of games that let us play on land. Now they even slowly take over space. Sure, there was Far Sky, which looked much fun at first, but after buying and playing it (which took about 20 minutes) I was really pissed. After browsing the forums, I stumbled over the dev, stating that the game is not designed to last longer. WTF? I mean even if it's just one guy who made the game, you can't sell this. And you seriously can't compare this to Subnautica, which seems to have much more content.
But back to the point, there's no reason not to want to play Subnautica, right?
As I said before, when I read something like this, I start to feel like noone of you guys ever had a real coop experience. Your coop partners wouldn't be negative side effects, they would be friends you team up with and explore and build a base together with.
There's noone who'd ever set the pace for you. I'm always playing with friends or my cousin or brother, and it's much more teamwork and sharing rather than effort and annoyance.
Also, why do you think multiplayer would keep you from playing it alone in any way. It would be a feature, an option, of course, not a must.
well yeah, that's co-op -- which could probably be good if implemented correctly. I'd have no problem with that.
MULTIPLAYER on the other hand, as in 20-30 guys on a single map hosted by a server, I don't care for at all and really has no place in a game like Subnautica
Sorry me english is verry bad
