What's the quickest way to get unlimited food and water?
I'm curious on a very fast way to get this done. A step by step of what I would need to rush for it would be nice. Thanks for any and all replies.

Step 1, go to the large island aft of the aurora, recover scans of the botanical planters and bring back samples of "chinese potato plant" for replanting, food source solved.

Step 2 (option 1), locate the blueprint for seabase waterpurifier, install waterpurifier and wait for sweet sweet huge water bottles.

Step 2 (option 2), Produce still suit, beargryles the heck out of everything and drink your own golden streams.

For the record I dispise it when people ask "Whats the fastest way to [enter game scenario]" or "How to win easily". If you cannot develop your own strategies, it would be a good idea to practice the ability, improvisation is a very handy and not to difficult skill to learn.

With the alien containment unit being more difficult to obtain now I have to agree that planters are your best option. Just use a variety of plants in them. Some have high food content, others have high water content. Mix em up a bit or you get a bleed debuff for gorging on one plant type.
There's other ways as well. There's areas with lots of salt. Combine that with coral samples from the tubes for water.
For food I usually look for a pack of gasopods that have lots of little fish around them. Scare the gasopods and their poison kills the little fish which then float to the surface. I can typically collect a dozen or so fish at a time. Just leave the fish in a locker till you need them. They rot but when you cook them they become good as new.

Chinese Potato is good for food only. Take Marblemelon with it, to solve the water issue. Chinese Potato is useful later, when you have Stillsuit.
Water purification machine eats up a lot of energy, so if you want to use it, it's recommended to create a base in shallow waters and provide it with enough solar energy.

In the end, the fastest is Marblemelon.

All of the above is wrong. THE quickest way to unlimited food and water is to play in Freedom Mode instead of Survival.

Sure it is, but that doesn't mean the above suggestions are wrong.

Load your inventory with tanks. Swim down to the jellyshroom caves. Scan the multipurpose room and alien containment. Catch two peepers and two bladderfish. Build room, power room, build tank, put fish in tank, wait.

You can get by on the garden but it is three times as much work, minimum.

Thank you everyone for the replies I'll keep them in mind the idea with this post was to figure out a way to rush into being self sustained so i didn't destroy the fish population (read it doesn't respawn so it becomes barren which isn't ideal) I wanted to make a base in the shallow waters with the fish somewhat present still (lol i'm not a fan of dark water so no idea what im gonna feel later when playing lol probably gonna be very eerie for me atleast... Probably why the decesion to build up high. I haven't play much so I'm not too sure how possible this is.

If I remember correctly, marblemelons don't grow multiple collectable parts at once, meaning they're not replantable infinitely. Bulbo trees do. So bulbo trees would probably be your best bet for water.

^This - there's no *wrong* way to do it but if we're talking about efficiency, Bulbo Trees give plenty of water - plant 2 or 3 in your base and you barely need anything else water-wise.

If you're wearing the Stillsuit you *literally* don't need anything else - no Filtration machine, no bleach, no Airsacks - just Bulbos.

As mentioned, Marblemelons are the only fruits that do not supply a surplus with which to re-plant what you use, so you have to jump through hoops to make them viable, which is why (in terms of balance) they're the most nourishing fruit in the game.

Maybe before some updates but if you cut a marblemelon you get 4 seeds -> 4 marblemelons.
So they kind of multiply if you do the right way.

If you want to build in dark areas i recommend planting creepvine seeds near your basedoors.

Those produce light for free.
You could also plant other luminescent plants like jellyshrooms etc.

An interesting way to use different underwater flora is to plant an outdoor planter inside a wreck with braincoral, sporesacks and creepvine.

You just need to wait till they grow and you end up with food ,water ,light and oxygen inside a wreck.

That wasn't even funny the first time someone made that joke in this thread :p

Once you have a scanner and the seaglide with spare batteries, go to the floating island so you can get marblemelon to grow. That will only keep you fed/watered while you're in your base, so you then have to work on getting water filtration and alien containment blueprints. Once you have them you can create water and cured food; 1 alien containment with Reginald breeding is generally enough for your cured food needs, and you will probably need 2 water filtration machines if you want to produce enough water to take out with you.

I thought I tried this post-update and got nothing from cutting them but I could be mis-remembering, I'll try again tonight.

Wasn't meant to be funny, only accurate.
