How do you get weapons?
Loving the game but have hit a dead end, I can't figure out what I need to do to defend myself against sea monsters and sharks, the knife seems ineffective

You aren't supposed to kill them in this game, there aren't really any weapons. There is the Propulsion gun which will push them away from you, though. Can get that from scanning fragments in wrecks. Forgot about the Stasis Rifle, that will stun them so you can get away.

Right now the personal "weapons" have their blueprints in the Underwater Islands wreck. Without being too specific, that's in the northern area of the map, north-west of the Aurora. That's the Stasis Rifle (freezes things in place so you can scan, run from, or stab them) and the Propulsion Cannon (can fire projectiles - some of which can be deadly - from the environment, like plants and rocks as ammo.

That said, and while those are absolutely invaluable, honestly the best protection from critters is a vehicle. The Seamoth minisub changes the game once you build one. And it's useful for more than keeping Sandsharks off your back, since it acts as a portable oxygen supply and lets you dive deeper, in greater safety. And diving deeper gets you even more blueprints, etc., so it's key to progressing.

In theory, before the game is finished, there should be clues showing you where some of this stuff is, as long as they're going to put it in very specific spots like this. Right now though, if you don't explore enough to find large wrecks on your own, or stumble across them, you'll never get any blueprints.

Thank you, not the news i was hoping for, with luck they will add some better weapons in as the game evolves.
i did have an issue with the seamoth, i finally got it the other night, made myself a lead lined suit and headed for the auroua, only my seamoth was grabed by a huge seamonster that crushed it (i am playing the experimental branch so maybe it was not meant to be able to grab the ship)
I will hunt for stasis gun parts (well im hunting for anything at mo and thank you for the directions.

Welcome to the club, my friend. Most of us are introduced to the Reaper in the YouTube videos from which we learned about this game, so he's a little bit (but only a tiny bit) less of a shock. He TOTALLY is supposed to grab the Seamoth. He is, however, only supposed to destroy it if it's already damaged or if he gets to grab it twice. He doesn't quite do enough damage to wreck it from 100% hull in one go. Yes, there are more than one of them, but they're uncommon, and stake out specific territories (large ones, though).

There are also technologies you can dive for later that will make him let go much earlier, and do much less damage. Everything's an evolution in this game. For the time being, just watch out for the roars and try to give him a wide berth. You should be able to slip past him to get to the Aurora. The issue I always had that made me want to take the Cyclops (bigger sub; not subject to Reaper attacks, not really buildable until later in the game at this point) was that Reapers will attack EMPTY Seamoths and destroy them. This means, in theory, he could eat your ride while you're exploring the Aurora. In practice, as long as you park near the surface, you should be fine; Reapers tend to like it deep. This is a good strategy for avoiding them in general, in fact. Not foolproof, but pretty good.

Bear in mind also, since you're playing experimental, that this is an unfinished, EA game full of bugs. Scroll through the forums a little and you'll see. The Reaper especially has a rep in recent updates for not roaring (the Ninja Reaper bug), and spawning right in front of you, so close you can't avoid being attacked (the Reaper Surprise bug). Neither of them are terribly common, in my experience.

in my present game he appears to be at the aurora, and i just dove for a building i saw at the bottom of the sea that had 5 doors in each other, open one there was another and another all in the same space after 5th i got in, then had 5 doors to cut through (same deal)
but this is a very old world.
Im gonna start again, cheat a bit till i get back to where i was, with luck the reaper will not be at the aurora this time :)

They aren't going to be adding weapons. You aren't intended to be able to kill anything. Just so you know..............

There will ALWAYS be a Reaper at the Aurora. They spawn in three different areas around it. ;)

Here's how:

You don't get one.

You just dont get deadly weapons as in guns, if you choose to use your given tools you can kill its your choice.

Just slam the shark with the repulsor gun against rock tada dead shark.
You can also use a diamond hardened knife and the stasis rifle to kill neary anything.

So far i only encountered 2 beasts i couldnt kill if i wanted to or better i wouldnt be sure to be the killer :) And that are the Reapers and the Dragon ... both which can be evaded once they fix the ghost spawn bug.

To the OP: watch out around the aurora, the reapers there sometimes soawn like in youre face.
Best way to get there for me is to swim close to the hull beginning at the engines and moving to the front. That way you are not in complete open water if he ninja spawn on you :)

I luckily made it into the Aurora several times with my Seamoth intact. I just stayed close to the seabed and the Aurora's hull, and once I got to the front I went in and immediately headed for the surface where the entrance is. The Reaper doesn't come to the entrance unless provoked. Once I found the PRAWN suit fragments and built one, I went back to the Aurora with it to explore, and the Reaper Leviathan attacked. I dodged and punched it, then on the second attack it grabbed me. Then I kept punching it in the face, and after four punches (two from each hand) it let go and retreated quickly. Get the PRAWN suit and the drill arm attached, and you can deter or kill things. Be sure to carry a repair tool though! It takes damage easily!

My first uncomfortably intimate encounter with a reaper was when I was trying to find where the entrance to the Aurora was. I was swimming along the side when I had a nice big chunk taken out of my backside by the reaper whose roar had apparently been covered by some random explosion or splashing.

Have to admit that I jumped a bit. When I spun around he was already halfway buried again under the sand dune he'd popped out of.

Posts like this are proof that more (young :steammocking:) people need to play HalfLife2.

I don't really see anything except for maybe the Gravgun or even the crowbar, but I think I'm reaching. I'll just say that this makes no sense and move on.
