Solar panels on a cyclops
Is it possible to have solar panels on a cyclops, and if so, how?

no it is not possible anymore, a long time ago while the game was in Early Access you were able to, but now you can't.

The only thing you have now is the upgrade modules for the vehicles that let them recharge in certain conditions.

The SeaMoth has a solar charging module.
The Cyclops and Prawn Suit have thermal charging modules.

These basically reinforce where they expect you to use these vehicles:
SeaMoth in the early game,
Cyclops and Prawn Suit in the deep late game.

I only really use the cyclops as a moblie outpost from which i deploy the prawn

I build a small base with just one or two tube sections and put solar panels and battery chargers there. Leave stuff on change and stop by when you need them. Or if it is deep use a thermal reactor or two.

It's reasonably quick and easy, so you can make several in different places. 8-)

How do Power Cell Chargers work on a Cyclops? Presumably the power used to recharge the cells merely depletes the power in the engine anyway?

I have a base I use for recharging cells with bio-reactors, but I'm curious to see if I can have the Cyclops somehow refuelling it's own cells as it travels.

Power cell chargers only transfer energy from the cells on the cyclops to the cells in the charger! There nothing to gain from using them in the cyclops now days.

You can consider the power cell slots in the engine room as functional power cell chargers.

Obviously this will only be true as long as you have the thermal charging module, are within range of enough heat, and you aren't drawing more power than your charging back.

So yeah, there really is no point anymore to building a power cell charger in the Cyclops unless you really can't stand seeing a power cell sitting in a locker instead of a charger.

Now, this isn't very effiecient, but if you have your seamotjh with your cyclops, and you have solar charger on your seamoth, you can charge cells while the seamoth is docked in the cyclops using the seamoth. It seems to take some from the cells in the cyclops too, but it's not a 1:1 transfer from cells in the cyclops, so you can actually gain charge doing it this way. You just swap out cells underneath the seamoth. In a pinch, you can get some charge that way. Don't know how deep you can go before this stops working.

all the power you use to charge cells and batteries comes from the cells in your cyclops. however you can put chargers in your cyclopse and then park it on a thermal vent to recharge everything. and in some areas you can go to, the temp will be high enough that you will never need to worry about power needs.

Not if you use the Seamoth and it has the solar panel and is docked in the cyclops.

I noticed after my Cyclops had idled for 5 mins that the power percentage had gone from 86% to 87%.

I don't have the thermal upgrade, only Depth Mk I at the moment. So I'm slightly perplexed as to how that's happened, unless having it sat with everything switched off also slowly charges the battery?

I've noticed this too. I was charging my Cyclops from a vent in the cove tree caverns. I stopped at 93% and started to head back towards the surface. I noticed that when I reached the surface my charge level was 94% and I was only traveling in cold water.
