Any way to retrieve a save game when you die in hardcore?
I went into my cyclops and opened one of my storage containers and I teleported outside my cyclops and fell to my death about 300 meters...

I have about 30 hours of work and building. Had i know this game still had these bugs I would have not done hardcore mode...

Once you die in hardcore the game deletes all save data.

As much as I love this game it is anything but bug free.

Too late now but you should have asked, we would have tried to warn you about that. :steamsad:

If you really want to do Hardcore, there's an auto-backup utility available on Nexus so you can revert your save if you encounter a Hardcore-game-breaking bug.

Ask me about the time I glitched through the rocket and died - right before leaving the planet - on a death-free run.

On second thought, don't ask me. Too painful.

Just came across this page, my thoughts are all fogged up right now because I just lost a 15 hour Subnautica below zero hardcore world. If you are familiar with the game you will know there's a vehicle named the Sea Truck, and the cool feature about it is you can create and add more modules to it, essentially upgrading it. Well there's also a little bug/work around involving rotating your sea truck at a slanted angle so it immediately kicks you out of your sea truck instead of bringing you to the inside (because there is no room for you to walk around.) I was driving around in my sea truck going to an alien artifact when I got out of it, I recall I was slanted but not enough that I should be immediately ejected from the pilot seat, but to my surprise as I soon I got out of my seat to go change the music from the Sleeper Module, it immediately kicked me out, but still registered it as me inside of the sea truck, so I was falling to my death while in water, and couldn't do anything about it, I have never even heard of bug before, and the only explanation I have to this mystery is I was either at such a precise angle that I fell out but didn't register properly, or I just simply glitched it and died.

Truly went out with a bang

can also save and exit at certain points and then backup the save file...

About storage containers in the Cyclops:
If you ever have storage lockers / other furniture in the Cyclops set up so that discrete graphics assets (including the visible character, and especially your PoV location) try to occupy the same space at the same time, it sets up horrific graphics conflicts. The engine will jump and tilt the sub, move the character (usually outside the sub), etc, trying to resolve the conflict. This will often either:
A. Toss the character into so many damaging falls and conflicts inside the sub that you die;
B. Trap the character (PoV point) in a space to narrow for the character to move (console time); or...
C. Teleport the character (which is usually the "moveable object" in the graphics conflict) out of the sub (resolving the graphics conflict but leaving you walking on top of the sub with no way in {console, maybe}, or free falling below the sub.

So, be careful how you cram furniture together inside the Cyclops. Do your Cyclops internal building and testing with the Cyclops close to the sea bed, and near a base hatch that you can enter from "walking mode. DO some testing of all furniture actions after you build them into the Cyclops, especially if you are really cramming the subs spaces (I do.)

NEVER build anything near the top or bottom of a ladder, or in the dive trunk hatch, or near the bed, or ANYWHERE that overlaps the spot where the "use animation" of the ladder, hatch, bed, etc deposits the character when the animation ends. Guaranteed violent conflict.

Sometimes, if you get glitched out of the sub in walking mode, and the sub is a convenient height above the seabed, you can dive out of the predicament.

If the sub is real close to the seabed, and you are falling, or you have to dive off the top of the sub, you'll take some damage from the fall, but it won't kill you. Med kit yourself then look for a way to go through a hatch or door, even if you have to build one. That will reset your environment mode, to "walking" inside and "swimming" outside.

If the sub is ~80m+ above the seabed, you can try diving off. After falling about ~60-70m, your environment mode should reset, there will be a splash, and you will be swimming. Just swim back up to the sub's dive hatch.

If the sub is between ~25m and ~80m above the seabed, you are probably SOL. If you are falling already, you are probably going to die.
You can TRY to QUICKLY Pause, then enable the console and warp yourself to a safe point. I think your mode will change when you do, also.
If you are on top of the sub, then you probably do have time to enable the console and warp yourself back inside the sub.

Of course, if you are in Hardcore, any of the solutions that require you to open the console are moot points. You can't.
