I warped inside, and it's just emptiness. Weirdly though, the water is green, and Kelp Forest music starts playing too, so apparently it's technically a kelp forest..

Apparently, it uses the biomes from the seabed at the top of the map. Most of it was Dunes, some of it was Mushroom Forest, and then there was the small piece of Kelp Forest.
a long time ago in development there was a corridor that connected the dunes to the lava zone maybe thats a left-over from that?
