Reaper Leviathan hp
I decided to take down a Reaper Leviathan since it's roaming in the area that I wish to explore.
I'm using a stasis rifle and a thermoblade. I must have stabbed it 50 odd times but it doesnt seem to die.
What am I missing?

You're missing another 75 stabs.

Oh wow, seriously it has that much hp?

If the wiki is accurate, it has 5000hp. Thermoblade hits for 40 damage, so you need to cut it 125 times.

:reaperleviathan: Yup, it's around 130 heatblade hits. :reaperleviathan:

Sorry, totally should have read your response before duplicating. :peeperfish:

I did it! Just around 100 hits more :D
It took a bit of practise, but the strategy works. Is there a quicker way?

Make sure your stasis gun is fully charged, rather than just using the quick-press shot. A full stasis charge is enough time to get in around 25-30 hits with the thermoblade. You can time it right to start charging a new shot just as the old one is wearing off. It only takes about 2.5-3 minutes to kill a reaper if you have a good routine down.

Your method is the most consistently fast way that I've found. The methods with the PRAWN suit, especially attempting to grapple and attack the reapers, are more random and can lead to weird glitches. Leviathans will often get stuck that way, can start clipping, or will leave their normal zones and end up in places they shouldn't be (this is one way players end up with reapers in the safe shallows).

You could always avoid it as intended, or, the way I like, is you can grapple to it and punch it with the prawn until it dies. Dunno if it's faster though. It should work with reapers.
Punching it with the prawn feels a lot cooler though.

Do they respawn when you kill them or is there a finite number of them in the map?

Finite number

If you want a wild ride and make one end up in the safe shallows then use a prawn suit. (with armor upgrade) My suit has a drill arm and grapple arm. I grapple onto him and just drill into him while he swims wildly away with me in tow!

Sometimes he will be face to face with me. After a few encounters I will ungrapple from him and hide around a mountain rock somewhere and repair the suit. Usually have to repair about 2 or 4 times.

On one occasion we met around the ship wreck and we both ended up by the safe shallows. His health was low and a group of 3 Gasopods started unloading gas on him and boom he was dead! It was a crazy sight to see. I wasn't aware they would attack him but it looked like they did!

Happy hunting!

Second one down, took ~5 mins but definitely got the technique down. Next one I suspect can be done in one air rotation. It's a shame that they don't drop anything. I don't think I even got an achievement :/

@Avoiding as intended - nah not an option. They've gots to be stabbed :D

Thanks for all the options guys!

Yeah, the game really wasn't designed well for them to be killed, as the entire process is kind of awkward and somewhat glitchy. I actually wish Hardcore mode would make it impossible to kill them, as certain areas are much different with the challenge of having to navigate them removed.

Using the stasis gun is just plain murder. I never build it for that reason.

Get a prawn drill with grapple, it'll save 5 minutes.:reaperleviathan:
