Sunbeam Event Trigger (Spoilers)
Ok, I went into the Enforcement Platform (big gun building) and found out about the infection and that the gun will shoot down ships that come near before I got the first message from the Sunbeam. Does that mean I won't get the event now? I have already started my rocket platform, have all vehicles, and a couple of bases, and am at 50+ days, but no contact from the Sunbeam?

Sorry if this has already been answered but I couldn't find anyone who just hasn't gotten any messages from the Sunbeam.

The Sunbeam? If you have repaired your lifepod and it's radio, I THINK that's the trigger to get the messages to start popping up, I might be wrong. I'm pretty sure it will get shot down regardless of when it arrives.

IF you have managed to disable the Enforcement Platform by the time they arrive, I believe they make a different excuse not to land instead (somthing to do with too much orbital debris in the way or something.), and just go on thier way.

according to the wiki are are two possible outcomes, if you don't disable the QEP, the sunbeam will be shot down. if you do disable the QEP the sunbeam won't be shot down but it can't land and instead will make its way out of the system and report your location to Alterra.

how you trigger it is by fixing the radio and letting the initial sunbeam messages run, but if you get the message that says the sunbeam is about to arrive at the planet for landing, a timer will show up warning you when it will happen. the timer is in real time and not game time, so you will usually have 45 minutes to reach the island for the planned meet up.

That trigger can be delayed by not repping the radio right?

Yes

Ok, thanks for all the responses.

Radio messages don't come at set times during the game, they come based on when the last message was cleared. If you don't listen to the first message until you're about to leave the planet, you could launch your ship before the Sunbeam even reaches the planet.

IMHO they should have made each message come at a set time after the crash and just let them stack up on the comms. That would pretty much have guarenteed that the QEP couldn't be shut off before the Sunbeam came ot rescue you.

I actually repaired the radio very late to see what happens. Got a bunch of radio messages for lifepods and 0 sunbeam messages, no messages about it not being shot down or anything. I think the wiki is wrong about there just being two possibilities and there's a cutoff point where you simply will not get the messages.

I also got a radio message about the warpers saying they'd hunt me (or whatever those creepy alien messages are), even after being cured and they stop hunting you, which was amusing.

There's a bug at the moment - I shut down the QEP before activating any radio messages from the Sunbeam. The... deactivated QEP gun shot down the sunbeam.

Wait, did you just say the sunbeam doesn’t get blown up if the QEP weapon is disabled? This is a static story line and will only be trigger as an event regardless of the gun being disabled or not. In other words, regardless of the guns status, the sunbeam will get shot down

No. In summary :

Repair radio, get sunbeam rescue message, don't shut down gun --> sunbeam dead
Repair radio, get sunbeam rescue message, cure disease, shut down gun (basically rush the game) --> sunbeam arrives and says "Hai! Landing iz not possible, be back later, kthxbye!"
Don't repair radio, shut down gun, repair radio --> sunbeam gets shot down by inactive gun.

The loophole appear to be that even if you've successfully shut down the gun (which implies cured the disease) and THEN fix the radio... the plotline continues to blow up the sunbeam.

no-one has mentioned what (if anything) happens if you simply don't repair the radio at all and just finish the game without ever listening to a single message...

Well, as I've said, I cured myself, repaired the radio, and did not get anything sunbeam related. Nothing special happened at the end.

On a side note... does the destroyed sunbeam leave behind stuff to scan?

No.

Different radio message have different triggers. Some requre visitng biome, some time passed, some building x, etc. If you do not listen to sunbeams first message and deal with gun you simply get a different outcome and sunbeam NEVER EVER shows up. Even after gun is disabled it wont show up, their response is something I don't remember but they are "thankful" for headsup about the quarantine and they just leave.

Since someone asked you do actually need radio to finish the game. The only way to get neptune blueprint is in captains quarters, you are given the code via message from altera. Tho... now that I think about it... you could just type it without ever listening to altera... you know... its only 10 thousand combinations... could have guessed, or used pda to google the damn thing.

So... I guess you could just finish the whole game without ever building/fixing radio. Degasi and lifepods just explain the situation they are not tied to main story nor do they trigger anything related to main story.

Sunbeam will get shotdown even with QEP is shutdown.
