Storage Room Help
Greetings,

I've been struggling with making an optimized Storage Room in this game mainly because the Multipurpose Room is round and not square in shape.

I was wondering if you people could post pics of how you did your Storage Rooms to help give me ideas.

Thanks :)

i just line the walls with lockers. you ca nfit two large lockers or three small lockers on each wall segment. i like doing the small lockers even though you get slightly less storage space just because they don't take quartz and have built in lables

my friend built rows in hers using large lockers back to back in the middle of the room

if you build the cross-shaped segment, you can place lockers etc in each wing while leaving a hallway to connect rooms.

that would be two multipurpose rooms connected with the cross. left and right points of the cross are for storage. put the hatch on the top or bottom of that cross.

Triangle formations are nice if you want style based stacking. But other than that, maximum cram time is taking advantage of the fact you only need to be able to look at the locker, period. So you get a lot of sideways line ups (most poprular in trying to cram a bunch of lockers in the little nook of your cyclops between the bridge and vehichle bay room)

As well, take advantage of VERTCIAL MP rooms for mass storage. base ladders are instant travel. Beats sprinting through hallway tubes to get to the next room.

I could reach the bottom of that base from the top floor in the time it takes to walk to the next room in a horizontal setup. Use horizontal setups for style preferences, as they will only slow you down if your main concern is "optimized storage"

I just use X sections hooked together and add wings when I need more space. You can fit four small lockers in each "cubby", as well as four more on the walls where the rooms connect. So for each X section, you can fit up to 12 small lockers.

I can fit a locker for every resource in the game in one MP room. You can fit 4 lockers on a wall if you try, then three on the wall next to it, then 4 on the one next to that. Then I have one wall with two big lockers for titanium and a fab. :D

So one thing I was thinking about doing is putting a couple of lockers in the center of a MP room. These will be for my bulk resources (Titanium, Quartz, etc)
Then have lockers lining the walls for less common things.

The one thing that I hate about lining walls is:
1. Can't branch out.
2. Can't put reinforcements up.
3. Can't put windows up.

:(

I used to be a "gotta have hundreds of resources" kind of guy with dozens of wall lockers all sorted and named with the contents built in an elaborate base and storage out the wazoo in the Cyclops for PRAWN excursions to grab every last resource node I could until watching a few speed runs and realizing what a complete waste of time it had been and what small amounts of resources you actually need to beat the game.

number 2 at least you can do, you just have to put the reinforcement in before you try to put anything on the wall

Here's my storage/fabrication room for Freedom Mode (no food or water storage) that I've installed in my three primary bases. It's a second floor multipurpose room with the only access being a ladder. That means the entirity of the circular wallspace is available for 25 wall lockers, a fabricator, a radio, a modification station and two first aid kit dispensers. The center of the room has 8 floor standing lockers with a back to back arrangement in four groups. There's also a trash can.

The wall lockers are labelled clockwise from the fabricator:
  1. Copper
  2. Gold
  3. Silver
  4. Lead
  5. Lithium
  6. Magnetite
  7. Uraninite
  8. Nicklel
  9. Kyanite
  10. Energy
  11. Electrical
  12. Health
  13. Chem
  14. Rubber/Lub
  15. Fibers
  16. Glass
  17. Mushrooms
  18. Gel Sacks
  19. Stalker Teeth
  20. Table Coral
  21. Crystaline Sulphur
  22. Salt/Cave Sulphur
  23. Ruby
  24. Diamond
  25. Quartz
The number of wall lockers isn't due to the amount of storage needed, but rather organization. Almost every crafting item has a labelled locker and there's an attempt at logic behind the order. If you stand at the fabricator, metals are to your right in order of decreasing degree of use. To the left, first crystals and then organics in order of decreasing use. Manufactured goods end up being at the back. The floor lockers mainly store titanium, but also misc manufactured goods and the items that take up 4 slots (tanks, suits, plants, collectibles, etc).

You can reinforce the walls, just do it before the lockers are placed.

since the only connector you can add to a corner of a MP room is a hatch (which provides a nice little bit of storage space on the walls, tbh), that's where you put your reinforcements and then lockers or water filtration machine. You'll have the 4 "main" branches remaining for expansion (or windows if you like that sort of thing).
