pipes useless in their current state?
Hey DEVs can we look at pipes for a second. In their current state they player can only breathe from the end pipe (last placed). This means that diving any deeper than 300m forces the player to make a dash following the pipe back to the surface (or base). It also means that the player HAS to return a second type to collect all of the pipes, and using waterlockers arent applicable because the lockers have to be empty to be moved!

1)
DEVs please make pipes so that they dont take up inventory space + waterlockers can be moved with items within them + pipes can be broken along the chain so that the player can breathe along the pipes back up to the surface.

Im trying to play the entire game without the cyclops or seamoth. I really want to use pipes again because of how much fun they are to use, but really the only way to get 700+ metres down is by either bioreactor/thermal bases / seamoth / cyclops.

The only time I have used pipes in 3 playthroughs was during my first when exploring a deep cave 300-500m deep, but the cave really didnt have anything that i couldnt otherwise find in either the open ocean or the "LOST RIVER". Caves must also be worth searching through... otherwise whats the point of cave diving...

2)
Make caves worth while EXPLORING!

Pipes have a use, what i don't like about them is once you have better options, the pipes and pump can't be recycled, you can always throw them in a trash can, but i hate building something I don't need. To reach deeper depths you can always craft a 2nd batch. As you surface from a depper area, you can take each pipe off the chain so you can breathe as you go up.

U cant take pipes off from anywhere but the end of the chain though... which u wouldnt have room for anyway because of all the items ur carrying HENCE A SECOND RETURN TO COLLECT THE PIPES.

Too bad you can't do a "no vehicle" run with Subnatica since you have to build a Cyclops. :/

Did anyone ever feel like they HAD to enter a small one man deep cave like the one in the mushroom area?! I didnt once i realised everything dowthere also grows up in the open ocean along cliffs. So my point is what is the point of cave diving?

Yeah, but you could build it and not move it at all or use it other than the 1 fabricator item, so it is still essentially a no vehicle run.

If pipes could be disassembled, I would use them, but since they can't, I don't want to waste Titanium building them.

Imo pipes are unnecessary. I'm still on my first playthrough and I already have a base in the Lost River (without using pipes).

bases are unnecessary.. all you need is pipes, thermal blade and stillsuit. :P

Bases are necessary if you WANT a base. :P

Point is, I got this far in the game without the so-called NEED for pipes.

Has anyone ever entered a cave system only wide enough for one person and used pipes? if so, was that cave system more for resources or for the thrill of exploring?

And this is basically what Subnautica speedrunning is. Well, at least any%. They'll build a Seaglide and nothing else until they have the rocket plans, and the Cyclops is built after the rocket is partially finished, with the only purpose it serves being the shield.

Although, if a player gets positioning right they can use the Cyclops to tilt the rocket platform for a brief time, making it much faster to climb onto (no climbing animation.) From what I've watched this takes too much time/luck to get so no one intentionally does it.

Titanium is everywhere. How is it a waste?
