Have I completed the game?
Well, I did complete the game as I left the planet. But it feels like I should have much more to explore but I cant find anything. After I cured the infection I assumed I'd get some hints on what's left. Does the story end as I cure myself?

The actual ending needs you to Build a rocket and leave. If you haven't unlocked it by the time you cured yourself, you probably have a radio message sitting waiting to tell you "Oh by the way, come back to the aroura. here's the code to that one door you couldn't open. bye."

Oh, is that how you get the plans? Well that explains a couple things.

Also, crap. Guess I'll have to actually build a radio receiver now... My lifepod's still sitting out in the dead zone.

Yah OP I built the rocket but it's just standing there ready to launch as I go back through and see and do all the things I didn't see and do while completing the story.

It's a huge, handcrafted world, filled with little tucked-away areas some artist put love into, even though many players would never see them.

I started a little mini-series called "Subnautica: What'd I Miss?" if you want to check it out - although you may have seen and done things in your playthrough that I didn't and vice versa.

If you've cured yourself and built the rocket you've finished the game. It's not really a long-term survival game. You can keep exploring, but all of the most interesting places to explore are required to complete the story. You can find more resources, but what is left to build, really?

You've seen the ending but there's plenty of things to do in the game. I finished the game at 35 hours, my playthrough is now at 90 hours and I'm still not done :D

Can I ask how it managed to travel over 1km to the dead zone?

The save was started some time before release. An update caused the cache to reset, which apparently also "re-arms" the cutscenes for first exiting the lifepod. When leaving the lifepod (I used it for extra storage of seldom-needed materials), the rabbit ray that's shown in that little cinematic ended up somehow getting stuck to the bottom of the pod.

The events that followed can only be described as "incredibly bizarre". First I came back to find the lifpod had flipped upside-down in the shallows (it could still be entered normally, but once inside you'd be standing on the ceiling). Later, I noticed that the beacon signature had moved to somewhere several hundred meters beneath the grand reef.

Finally, I exited and loaded back into the game, and saw that all was well... The lifepod was back at sea level at last! Only... Well, it appeared to be located a couple kilometers out past the beginning of the dead zone.

I actually went out there to check on it (this was before the edge ghosts had been fully implemented). Sure enough, the lifepod was sitting out there, fully functional and with everything I'd put into the storage bins. Just, y'know... Slightly out of the way.

And the rabbit ray was still stuck to the bottom.

The 1.0 release appears to have moved it significantly closer, the beacon now indicates that it's only 3-400 meters past the edge, which is nice.
Well in my case: I'll NEVER leave! Basta!

WHY? Give me just one reason I should leave that planet?
Did you hear your Boss (Alterra) on the PDA?

"Remember that materials you gather are the property of the Alterra corporation.
You will be liable to reimburse the full market price. Your current bill stands at 3 million credits." (and that is just the current stand)

Are you ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ kidding me? No! Damn NO! I'm NOT gonna pay (even if I would have the money), i'll stay!
Come here Alterra and catch me if you can :D (cured = yes, disabled = no)

Becky'sFootSlave you are in possession of the only known cure for the deadliest disease the universe has ever seen. You are in total control of your fate. Alterra can't touch you. You're King of the Universe.

Didn't saw that from this point of view ;)
A bit carar on this planet, a bit on that and then I come with the (incredible highly paid) solution :D

Mhh, that sounds nice!
Like God of the universe!

But tbh that is not my way! I'll stay!

I launched the rocket in my save-spanning world. Never found the Degais DGR base and was too chicken to go to the north blood kelp forest. I tried to explore the dunes, but I got attacked by a reaper about 300m in. I attacked it with my P.R.A.W.N suit but it got away and I think they respawn anyway.

Thanks for the replies, it seems like I've completed the game after all. I've built the rocket, cured the virus. It just felt like the ending was so anti-climactic. I really expected more. That being said I love the game so damn much! 90hours in taking my time exploring and appreciating the story. The only negative thing I can say about the game is therefore the, what I felt, the sudden and anti-climactic end to it.
Now I havent read much about updates and expansions but I really hope there'll be regular updates that'll keep me coming back. Thanks!
