Oxygen tanks
Have oxygen tanks been changed? I just started playing experimental after not playing the game for a while and now i can only get 1 tank.

Actually, this is different.

First, just to give the reasons for the change:

1) Tank stacking is not intuitive to players. This item is the only item that gives benefit passively just by sitting in your inventory, and many players have no idea this is even something they can do.

2) Extra tanks take up valuable inventory space, which is particularly challenging to deal with early game, which is also when players really need the extra O2 tanks, so it can be a pretty painful tradeoff.

With the new way there is the basic tank, as it exists now, called the Standard Tank, which can no longer be stacked in the inventory. However we added a new craftable tank called the High Capacity Tank, which can be made pretty early on. The average number of tanks that players typically craft and carry are 3 (1 in the tank slot and 2 extra carried around in their inventory) so the High Capacity Tank has an O2 capacity that is the equivalent of 3 tanks. Then that tank can be upgraded, as before, in the modification station to make a lighter weight variant or an even higher capacity version.

That way players can have the same average amount of oxygen, without sacrificing inventory space, and for a bit less of a speed penalty, as well.

When will they correct the name to "Air Tank" and start referring to it as air instead of oxygen?
This issue is really putting me off this game.

Yes, sorry, it all is a bit confusing due to the names of the current tanks and new tanks. Here's a rundown of the new setup. O2 values still subject to change, based on feedback. This was just a first pass to get them in and working.

FABRICATOR
-Standard Tank = 40
-High Capacity Tank = 90

MODIFICATION STATION UPGRADES (Only can upgrade the High Capacity Tank)
-Lightweight High Capacity Tank = 90 with no movement penalty
-Ultra capacity High Capacity Tank = 110 (might need to go higher)

And yes, there is still a speed penalty on the High Capacity Tank and Ultra tanks, but I don't know the exact numbers offhand.

I'm disappointed we are losing the ability to carry multiple tanks for more air capacity at the cost of inventory space. The upgrade system you're describing is streamlined, but feels a bit less interesting, especially since we could already upgrade and modify multiple tanks.

It's understandable though. More than one or two tanks is just on the edge of being silly if you seriously think about it. How many tanks would an actual diver in the real world use at maximum unless he's just joking?

You can swim fairly long distances with a Seaglide, a single plasteel-tank and ultraglide-fins in stable right now.

The only times I use multiple tanks stacked in my inventory are basically the first steps before I can build a Seamoth.

Divers almost always go down with 2 tanks. Hardly ever do they just have one, that is silly.
And sometimes they go with 3 tanks.

And why must I be forced to use the seamoth? The whole "only one tank" stinks of removing options for players in the game.

Yeah! Let's petition them for pure realism. First let's get rid of all that scrap metal, no way we're dragging 4 pieces of that around on the ocean floor in real life. Maybe they can add a drag mechanic so we have to slowly, over the course 6 real life days, drag each piece to our first base. Ore has got to go too, if 6 pieces = 1 habitat then how does it fit in a pocket? Lies and deceit, that's how! Also not sure why the devs completely avoided a skin pruning mechanic. Seems like a consipiracy against aquatic living and an egregious oversight that ruins my immersion. And a spaceship... a SPACESHIP!? Space travel doesn't belong in Subnautica: Totally Realistic Diving Simulator 3000. I think the developers have much an answer for.

@Dakota - Your sarcasm completely is off track to what I am saying.

I am not asking for realism in a game, I am saying the devs are further limiting our options on how the player wants to play the game. So now, we are going to be limited to one tank. That is one tank on your back, and none in your inventory. Have you EVER tried to search a big wreck with only one tank? It is almost not feasible on the more complex wrecks.
AquaX May 12, 2017 @ 1:04pm
Yeh I can fully explore a wreak w 3 tanks. 1 tank was a nightmare since I have keep going back for air.

Also seen a lot of ppl in YouTube miss data pads and pads bc they rush look around w 1 tank.

I've played something like 70+ hours of Subnautica and didn't know you could stack tanks until I read *this* post. So yes, I've done everything in game with a single tank as recently as the last major drop. Before I have the high capacity tank I use the oxygen pumps and pipes to help with wrecks. After I have the high capacity tank I don't have any trouble.

Also if you read the first quoted post above the devs simply removed the need to store 3 wee tanks by giving you a completely viable alternative in the form of 1 large tank with the capacity of 3. Wasn't that update from like a year ago? That sounds like a completely reasonable alternative that removes nothing except the pain of trying to explain why there is only 1 item in game that stacks.

Do divers have tanks that automatically refill themselves simply by being exposed to the air?

Yes this change makes the game slightly harder. Everyone who wants the game to be easier and has a problem with it being harder raise your hand.
kwong20287 May 12, 2017 @ 1:16pm
They could add more slots in the UI for more tanks. It would save space.
Cougarific May 12, 2017 @ 1:17pm
But they're not. Instead they're giving you a Heavy tank + Mod Station upgrades.
kwong20287 May 12, 2017 @ 1:20pm
They could attach the tanks together if we make more tanks.
