How do you sleep/rest?
Just got this and am a bit confused, no tutorials or explanations about any game mechanics. Its night and I cant see a damn thing and just want to wait till day, but nothing in the escape pod can be slept on and I didnt see any blueprints for a bed or whatnot.

How is this done? Theres got to be some kind of thing to pass time like wait in Skyrim/Fallout

You can go to sleep if you find a bed to scan with the scanner. You can then build it in your base. There are some in the Aurora, living quarters.

Although you can sleep in a bed it's really just a gimmick. The deeper you go in this game the less you will even be able to tell day from night. Because it will always be dark.

Plus the nights in this game are worth seeing. Especially in the starting area around the lifepod.

Few simple tips to help out.
-Always try to go deeper.
-If you can't go deeper, look in the places you can get to for things that might help you get deeper.
-Build a scanner, scan EVERYTHING (yes, all caps EVERYTHING).
-You don't have to read everything you scan (there's even a tab in the PDA so you don't) but skimming it can help.
-If it has teeth, chances are it wants to eat you. Speaking of.
-A knife is a friend for life.
-Early game the radio will help you find some places of interest, but it won't hold you had forever.

The darkness for me was part of the beauty of this game. Not only is it amazingly dark and hard to tell anything that is going on around you (much akin to a normal ocean), but since you don't know what anything is when you start, it is all the more frightening. Attack the game from this perspective: You are a scientist. Test your surroundings. See what you can build as you go along. Don't cheat. Figure things out as you continue along.

I myself watched Stalkers for days to learn their behavior. I tested them by swimming closer, and when they came after me, I sped away. I learned what they liked, and brought it to them. The game has all these mechanics for you. Just take it slow. Your main priority should be to figure out how to make food and get water. Once you have these in a small amount of abundance, explore and scan and do what you can to know the world you're on.

Save and quit, sleep, press play when recuperated.

If you do want to read everything though, build a bench and sit down on that while you do - it disables hunger and thirst so you can take your time there.

A few people have found my non-spoilery tutorial vids helpful if you want to give them a try. This is episode 1 of 18:
