Plus the nights in this game are worth seeing. Especially in the starting area around the lifepod.
Few simple tips to help out.
-Always try to go deeper.
-If you can't go deeper, look in the places you can get to for things that might help you get deeper.
-Build a scanner, scan EVERYTHING (yes, all caps EVERYTHING).
-You don't have to read everything you scan (there's even a tab in the PDA so you don't) but skimming it can help.
-If it has teeth, chances are it wants to eat you. Speaking of.
-A knife is a friend for life.
-Early game the radio will help you find some places of interest, but it won't hold you had forever.
I myself watched Stalkers for days to learn their behavior. I tested them by swimming closer, and when they came after me, I sped away. I learned what they liked, and brought it to them. The game has all these mechanics for you. Just take it slow. Your main priority should be to figure out how to make food and get water. Once you have these in a small amount of abundance, explore and scan and do what you can to know the world you're on.
