Why Do I Lose Saved Items When I Die?

I finally found a few bits of silver ore, and saved after collecting them. A while later, I saved the game again. Shortly after that, I died. But I had lost all the silver, despite having saved (twice) since finding it. Why did I lose it?

Saving is just where you start again after you've quit the game and loaded it back up. When you die, you lose all non-tools. That's how it works.

More precisely, when you die you lose what you have picked up since you last left your base.

Go back to where you died and you should find it floating there.

Thank you both. It's not great that they make you lose stuff, but at least I know now.

If you go back to where you died everything will be there. Kinda sucks dying in middle of nowhere as some stuff seems to float while others sink

You can also just leave the current game and load the save game.

Thank goodness for that. I had finally built my first Prawn suit, and went hopping along the sea and enjoying the 900 meter range. Then it started getting really deep until I started free falling for thousands of meters... whoops, that's the end of the map. Quit/reload.
