Fixing drive core
Does game leads me to the point where I'm supposed to fix the drive core? or is it something I'm supposed to do on my own for the only purpose of getting rid of radiation?

Please don't post spoilers

You do it on your own. The radiation stops you from accessing a decent portion of the map, so it's a good idea to fix the reactor so that inconvenience is removed.

You need to visit the ship at some point anyway, and it has a bunch of useful goodies so it's worth doing early on aside from getting rid of the radiation.

If you wear the radiation suit all the time, there shouldn't be much a problem, but fixing the reactor opens up the possibility of using other equipment in irradiated areas.

Getting rid of the radiation will allow you to remove the rad suit and wear any other items that could help with survival or diving deeper, plus if you leave one section of the rad suit at your base, you have to go back and get it, wasting time and resources, no radiation = no worries, plus the Aurora has loads of goodies.

You don't need to fix it, but it's highly recommended out of convenience. Not bringing a single piece of your rad suit pretty much makes the whole Crash Zone and parts of surrounding biomes dangerous to explore.

Choosing to not repair it keeps you from using the Rebreather inside the rad zone as well, which is one of the more important equipment pieces.

True, but there is a PRETTY nice item you get in the drive reactor room for the effort, not to mention along the way the parts for 2 different end game vehicles. So although its not "required" its pretty darn silly not to do it.

I'm confused on this as well. When I first started playing I almost immediately starting getting core failure / quantum explosion warnings, with no way to do anything about it (this apparently is normal) and it exploded or did whatever it did. Then for a long time I thought I was supposed to stay away from the ship so I ventured out in every direction but that one, finding a good chunk of the sea and plant life, blueprints, etc.

Then I finally figured out how to get the rad suit and when I went to the front of the ship I got a warning saying I had to fix it within 24 hours or it would trash the surrounding sea life). Then a note about I'd have to laser/burn my way in but couldn't find anything on the front of the ship that I could use the laser cutter on.

Seems like 24 hours from that point is not a lot of time to fix whatever it is. Do you basically burn your way through a door in the front of the wreckage and work your way through some hallways to the core and then use the repair tool to fix a panel or something like that?

If I let the sea life get trashed will I have cut myself off from completing the game in less than x00 hours? lol

Ignore the timer, its fake. On the ship itself there is a small gap at the bow section that leads up to an exposed deck on the surface. From there you need to move trash out of the way with the "grav gun" then use a fire extinguisher just to gain entry to the ship.

The rest I will leave for you to find on your own.

Oh and should note; I did the exact same as you did ^^.

Ha. OK good; I don't feel as stupid now.

Related to same, I didn't get the radio fixed until around the same time as the rad suit, meaning I didn't get any of the distress calls or respond until like 50 days in.. BUT I had already found like 3 empty pods by the time.

Question being, can you complete the game without rendezvousing with the other crew members / what happens if I ignore attempts to find them and just keep looking for blueprints, upgrades etc?

That would be a small spoiler so; Only read if you want to REALLY know.
I am a bit further on than your and there is no other crew. You are the only one still alive and not "found" yet.

Haha. Figured might be the case based on an alien translation thing I saw after first fixing the radio. Thanks.

Your welcome.

OK I have found my way to the drive room and searched what I believe to be every square foot of it, but do not see a means of deactivating or otherwise using the repair tool to fix anything. Been through most of the cabins but I'm assuming the answer isn't there. All I get from the game is dont attempt unless qualified... at a loss. Hint would be cool otherwise I may relegate myself to wearing rad suit the whole game.

Once you find the drive core, there are (I think) 10 holes that you need to repair. They're under the water, sparking, and quite noticeable.

And I think it's 11 (but Suzaku could be correct with 10).
